AC in Maruti Omni

Hi,

I feel the Maruti Omni is an excellent vehicle for the city. However, what goes against it is that it does not come with an AC. Is it advisable to get an AC retro fitted in a new Maruti Omni if I buy one? Is it effective? Does it affect the performance or life of the vehicle / its engine?

I understand that experiments to install AC in Omni have not been successful some or the other reason.
