Is driving the new car at 80 speed on highways a problem

Hi All,

I had bought a new Santro GLS last week and i already drove about 600 Kms (to and from journey)on highways with an average of 80 speed.   I came to know from my friends that we should not drive with that speed and there will be milage drop or some other problem in future.

I am totally unware about this and would like to know suggestions from the experts whether i will get into problems later, pls let me know.

  thank you in advance

Subhan.

It is advisable to keep the speed below 80 for a 1000 km or so. But check the car mannuals if it specifically says so then do not exceed it.

Otherwise also it is not very safe to drive at very high speeds.

These days all cars are pre-aroused, and, therefore, there's no problem or restriction on speeding.  However, mechanics advise a new car should be driven initially / first trip (like your's) at a speed not exceeding 70 but steadily. Thereafter, for the first 5000 kms it would be better if the speed is not exceeded above 80/85 & is driven as steadily as possible.

Don't worry, no such problem would occur. But it is advisable not to exceed the speed above 60kmph during first 1000 kms, just 400kms more and drive it the way you like.
