The Company was incorporated in April 2000, received its certificate to commence business on October 25, 2000 and formally launched in March 2001.

Information about Accident Shield?
This insurance cover provides financial protection through benefits for accidental death and disablement. The cover is for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, anywhere in the world.

For any queries you can either write in to RSA address mentioned in the policy or can call up the toll free number.

Define hazardous sports and activities?
The following activities and sports are not covered by the policy:
Whilst working in underground mines, explosives, magazines, workers involved in electrical installation with high tension supply, jockeys, circus personnel,
Engaged in activities like racing on wheels or horseback, big game hunting, mountaineering, winter sports, rock climbing, pot holing, bungee jumping, skiing, ice hockey, ballooning, hand gliding, river rafting, polo and persons engaged in occupation / activities of similar hazard.

Am I covered for sports?
Amateur sports will be covered. While you are covered for most of the normal, non- hazardous sports, Professional sport and any racing are not covered. You'll find an exclusions paragraph on your brochure, which explains accidents that aren't covered.

Does the cover pay out if I cancel or when I turn 75?
NO - the policy only pays out for loss of life due to accident during the term of the policy. The rates are kept low as you are only paying for loss of life cover by accident and no additional benefits.

If I am hijacked on a plane and die as a result, am I covered?
YES, You will be covered only if travel in the Plane as a passenger and if the death is due to physical injury caused by the hijackers or if such hijacked plane meets with an accident.

If I am a passenger in a car and die in an accident, am I covered even if I am drunk?
YES - if you are a drunken passenger you would be covered provided you did not actually cause the accident to happen through your drunken behavior. If you are driving the vehicle under the influence the drugs or alcohol, you are not covered for the accident, irrespective of whether it is caused by your drunken behavior or not.

I am a pilot/glider/balloonist/parachutist - am I covered if I die from an accident?
NO - Only people traveling as a passenger on a registered standard airline are covered.

Is the benefit taxable?
NO, the insurance benefits are free of tax.

Can my Certificate of Insurance be used as collateral to secure a loan or mortgage?
NO, your Certificate of Insurance cannot be used to secure a loan. This is because you will be covered for death as the result of an accident only but not death by any other cause.

My partner and I are not married. Can we still apply for joint cover?
NO, you can't apply for joint cover if you are not legally "married". Joint cover only applies to customers and their spouses, which in legal terms means husband and wife.

If I am kidnapped and whilst struggling to free myself I was killed, am I covered?
YES, you are covered for this occurrence, provided you were not killed due to suicide or attempted suicide

Does the customer have to pass a medical test?
No, there is no requirement for a medical test.

Are claim benefits payable in Indian currency or foreign currency?
All claims are payable only in Indian currency.

What is the time limit for a claim to be settled?
In most cases, 7 working days from the date of receipt of all required documents.

How would a person be paid in the event of a claim?
All payments will be made by Cheque.

What are the documents required to process a claim?
The following is a comprehensive list of documents required for processing a claim. The documents required will depend on the nature of claim.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR DEATH CLAIMS
a. Death certificate
b. Post-mortem report
c. First Information Report
d. Admission/Discharge/Death summary issued by the hospital authority (if applicable)
e. English translation of vernacular documents
f. Legal Heir Certificate/ Succession Certificate where nomination has not been made

What is the process of intimating a claim?
The claim can be intimated by either writing to us at the address mentioned in the policy or just give a call at the toll free number, mentioning, certificate number and name of insured and we shall take it forward.
What is the time limit within which the claim should be intimated to RSA?
The claim intimation should be done as soon as possible to enable us to help you out, the outer limit would be 30 days from the date of accident.
