please suggest what to buy for a usage of 2000km/month for a period of 22-24 (upto 2yrs) from now onwards (in highway )and and after 2yrs car runs mainly in city traffic for around less than 800km per month.,so it would come to 45000-48000 in total
afterwards it would come around 10000/yr,if we keep the car
car would be sold before 3-4 yrs as we have to move abraod
cars listed out are Ritz PETROL VXi and Ritz Diesel VDi.
Ritz diesel would return 20,
i read in some reviews that ritz petrol gave mileage of 15.15kmpl (500 km for 33ltr) another told 7-8kmpl in summer new delhi peak traffic.
ritz petrol may return a mileage max of 17..but we worried about mileage of ritz..we doubt it may return `mileage below 15..if mileage wontstand upto standards as claimed by maruti,its not worth buying
two days back,the decision was inclined towards petrol as petrol rate is 45.15/ltr.
now it gone upto 49.56/ltr.so there is rethinking in this
we thought that premuim 88000 (diff between onroad prices between petrol and diesel)paid at upfront will justify at non hiked prices...but hiked prices making decision tough

Will this be your 2nd car (new)? I think you very recently bought Indica Vista Quadrajet Aura.
better go for the diesel as you average run in 4 years comes to around 950kmpm. it would be more economical in case of diesel cars. Moreover you say that you intend to sell it off in 3-4 years. In such a scenario the diesel would fetch a better resale than a petrol counterpart. So that will be an added advantage. SO in your options the ritz diesel will the one to go for. If you are open to other options do consider the swift diesel, punto diesel and the i20 diesel (to be launched next week). The i20 will be a very good option if they price it competitively.
Going little deep in calculation Diesel will be costly afair. Here is the calculation:
Depreciation: Additional cost of Rs. 88000 @ 50% after 4 years = 44000
Interest on additional 88000 @ 10% for 4 years = 35200
Insurance @ 2.5% on additional 88000 = 7000 Approx
Additional Maitenance over petrol = 7000 Approx (Data- Service charges for swift diesel is higher than petrol )
So total additional cost of Diesel will be 94000.
Cost per Km in diesel = 36/18 = 2.00
Cost per Km in Petrol = 49/14 = 3.50
So savings = 50000 kms * 1.50 = 75000.
In your case buying diesel is not advisable.

almost same calculation similar to yours has been made by us and made..and it will give us profit of 10000 -15000 by using petrol car and selling it after 4yrs
one more doubt is what if if we wont use diesel car for a long period of 30-45 days?(not even once)

just have a look at this thread and the calculation done. The calculation is done assuming a 1 lac difference inn the pricing of petrol and diesel variants and an FE of 15 kmpl for both the versions. Just have a look and maybe things could get a bit clear
is Ritz diesel worth 88000 premuim interms of driviblity and pleasure..
usage for the month would be as stated will be 1800-2000 with a period of 50-60days of absolutely no usage in early 2011.and there will be no usage or minimal usage for few days on stretch (6-7days) in every alternative month.

As such in practical many people(like me ) only think about all these calcualation at the time of buying only.general tendency that.Down the line after after 2yrs,we forget all these like we paid premium of 88k ,we think about running cost like if i had to travel of trip 160km,I have to pay 2rs/km 320rs,if its diesel or if its petrol i have to shell out 560km at 3.5/km.

There is no harm if the present day diesel engines are not used daily - nothing to worry.
Like-wise, the 2nd point too does not stand true. It will primarily depend upon maintenance & care you take.
