Hi To All

I am completely a newbie in this world... and in a need to buy a new car... My budget is Max 5.5 L (including Car Road Price & little interior decoration). Right now I am learning driving hence for me a personal verdict through Test Drive is not possible hence I am more dependent on the forum and advices from experienced people.

After comparing a lot through the online tools and reading a many forums here… I am in an idea that Swift ZXi & i10 Asta 1.2 are the final round contestants for me (as per my budget…  ).

My driving shall not cross 800 KM per month (mostly within City), I am looking for safety first cars (hence dual air bag is very important… although friends suggested me that dealer can fit this for me but I am thinking that I would rather go for CD player kind of things as dealer fitting but would stick for safety items to company fitted). Myself is 5.11” hence boot space & car height are also factors… And to me performance comes before car look. Hence also please suggest in the light of engine capacity & performance.

Kindly please suggest me which one shall I go with… or if I shall look into some other models too… I am open to all suggestions as my experience with cars really nil my choice may be erroneous.

Thanks in advance to all.

With Regards,

Mainak

@ mainak,

if u want something really nice & can ur strech ur budget a bit than there would be no other better buy than the i20 asta. it has all to offer with very good comfor, space, fesatures, ride & boot is also not that small as in swift.

swift zxi is good on performance & features but lacks space, comfort & boot space, so if u want a car than can fit 5 people easily with comfort than rule out the swift from ur list.

i10 1.2 is a good car with better space & comfort than the swift & has very good interiors too. ull get a option of abs in the i10.

between swift & i10, i10 would be a better buy but would suggest u have a look at the i20 asta, stretch ur budget a bit & go for it.

Hi Manik,

Welcome 2 CarwaleSmile

You have already made good filtered choice..

In both car's i could say i10's mileage is slightly better,, 14/15kmpl.CoolSwift will be 1~2lesser.

Because Swift is having good power, driving pleasure & steady road grip on high speeds.

Rear seat of i10 is comfortable than swift.

my simple suggestion.. If you want to drive fast and enjoy driving on jaipur highway.. then swift..

or luxuries and cool driving in city.. then i10..

as deepam said... Try to streatch for i20 if u like..

A big insult to you by you is comparing your self with others!

Both the cars short-listed by you have ABS & Airbags.

Swift delivers more power/torque than i10 - and has more of driving pleasure.  i10 1.2 Kappa has better engine/technology & has very good overall performance.  Have a look at the comparison between the Specifications of the two.

Swift VXi has more Features (Immobilizer, Alloy Wheels & Tubeless tyres) & while i10 Asta has additional feature of Steering Adjustment.

Like-wise, Swift VXi is richer in All features in interiors, exteriors & safety aspects while i10 Asta is richer in comfort & equipments features.

i10 has more comfort/space than Swift, and is currently the most preferred car. i10 generally gives mileage of 13/14 in city & 17/18 on highway while Swift gives 12/13 in city & 16/17 on highway.

Take a test-drive of both the cars with family (space/comfort).

Hi All

Thanks very much for replies... Sorry I could not reply due to being out station. With the suggession of i20 from experts, I have one question.

IF I stretch the budget, with this extra money I see I can fit one sedan car here - TATA Indigo XL (Classic Petrol). It does not have AirBaggs or ABS but being a big car I might skip those features. I have been very much impressed with the interior of the car but.... have not heard much praise for this model do not know why!!

One more point to ask - I have heard that Air Bags do not float if I do not collide in more than 80 kmph... but if I vow to drive always less than 60 kmph then shall I bother for this feature? Moreover re-fitting air bags are also very costly (only heard about it, great if people here can advice on exact feagures of the same)...

Kindly please advice, I have enough time to decide... my dilema is with stretched budget shall I go for this TATA Sedan or shall I only think around i Series from Hundai.......

Thanks again

Mainak

i20 would be a better choice.  Indigo XL would be better choice if chauffeur driven - for its rear space/comfort.

Airbags can inflate even at lower speeds - depending upon the impact.  It's a good safety feature - normally preferred if highway use is more.

The Indigo range is about to be updated with the Indigo vista. The XL never found favour because of the poor driving dynamics.

At the extended budget there are few good diesel cars to consider like the Ford Ikon and the Swift/dzire diesels.

Why diesel- because they are better than their petrol counterparts.

I will 2nd Binoy, Indigo XL is not a good option to go for. Pankaj already mentioned that XL is good for chauffer driven for rear seat comfort.

Instead of going for Indigo XL, consider Ikon TDCi or Swift D'zire diesel, both are good specially the Ikon (Value For Money).

People dont change when you tell them that there is a Better option... They change when they realise that there is No Other Option..

A monthly run less than 2000 km a month does not deserve diesel from economics view point as even with 2000 km a month you will take 5 yrs to get back additional 1lac spent for diesel engine. It is unfair to assume that you will get all the money spent on diesel in the resale alone.UNless you are buyying a car where its diesel brother is outperforming its petrol brother, there is no need for u to buy diesel at such low running.ALSO,DIESEL ENGINES ARE POOR PERFORMERS IN CITY AS THE ENGINE IS NEVER ABLE TO SPEED UP TO POOL UP THE TURBO.NEVER BUY A DIESEL FOR CROWDED CITY RUNNING.
