Hey Bhushan,

Congratulations for the purchase, dear. I saw the pictures and left a comment on one of them.

It's three months of hard-hunting but haven't been able to find a decent name for CarWale Forum. Can you help? Write to banwari at carwale dot com please. If we like your name, you will get a permanent credit for it in the community profile page. And a royal treat from me! ;~)

Hi Bhushan! Hope you are doing well with your new Tata Indigo XL. Even I am also planning to buy this car. I love the looks but I am not sure about the performance and fuel efficiency. As you have already driven the car, can you please comment on the performance?

Raju,

Just a small correction. I have bought an Indigo LX TDI and not Indigo XL. I think one could call the performance of Indigo as decent. I have also given an initial review (i think i have tried to give as much detail as i could have as a new buyer) which you could check at LINK.

I have currently driven the car for around 2200 kms and am checking the mileage. Would update this thread as well as the review soon.

Well i completed the first mileage check after having run the vehicle over 2000kms. 2 weeks back i filled 30 litres of diesel (normal diesel). My driving pattern has been

  • Over free roads i maintain 60-70kmph in 5th gear
  • Within city most of the times either in 3rd or 4th gear with speed between 35 to 45kmph
  • Around 10% usage of AC as most of the driving happened during evening times
  • Fuel consumption measured from reserve-to-reserve. {well i thought of tankfull to tankfull but with rising diesel prices ...( }
  • 90% had only 2 passengers
  • No extra heavy luggage in boot
  • No racing on roads

After measuring for 30litres of normal diesl i found that the car had covered ~465 kms. And that meant a mileage of (465/30) = 15.5kmpl. I think that is not bad at all considering it is 80% in city driving condition. I am sure with time this would marginally improve with time.
