I just noticed that the picture i had refered to earler has been removed from the hyundai website. have they taken note of the fact the people are concerned about this issue?

Well, that leads to more suspicion.

Yes, it can be merged, but I don't have the tool (particular one) to do so. Banwari/Ashish can do.

Hi everyone,

This issue is getting really serious. I being one of the owner of i10 am really concerned now. I tried consulting the dealer ppl, but didn't found it much helpful.

Can the CarWale do something abt it? If the issue is real, I think we should collectively raise our voice against it so that M/s Hyundai can come out with some remedial measure. Can the CarWale take the lead in this and provide us with some appropriate and effective forum / platform?

The dealer representative informed me that, the engine would 'fall down' in case of a frontal collision - thus reducing the risk to the driver and front passenger. Moreover he said - i10 is the ONLY car in the compact segment, which has been crash tested.

I tend to believe and trust him.

This is interesting. From what i make out NO ONE got hurt!! Guess there is a mixing up of  SAFETY and CAR DAMAGE.

All ratings are for safety of the OCCUPANTS and not to the CAR. What we have here is a classic example--the car got destroyed but it SAVED LIFES!

The i10 has not been tested by EURO NCAP--the i30 has been and its a 4Star!!

Am sure what the dealer meant by 'engine falling down' is nothing but the anti submarining seat feature, where the seats actually stay at the chassis level and as the car takes the impact and the engine moves backwards towards the passengers it will go below the seat mountings preventing injury to the passengers.

As the i10 is planned for a EURO launch safety would be right there with the best.Guess what we have to do is see the damage to the car and the safety of the passengers separately, then all this will stop becoming a 'problem'.

You've got anti-submarining wrong. Those seats prevent the occupants from sliding off and into the footwell in the event of a crash. It has nothing to do with the engine.

Thanks Mick - a nice & meaningful link you have provided.

In general, i10 is as safe or unsafe as any other small segment car - nothing to worry
