Hi,I own a esteem 95 model. I have made 1.2 lac kms and its still at its best.I suggest go,get it fixed at authorised service dealer. Its worth you spending 90k..

Some confusion you have.  Go through the thread again.  90K is the likely resale value of the car.  33K is the estimated cost of repairs.

regarding the power windows getting stuck, ask your mechanic to do 'rellaying'. it helps a lot. increases the power of the motors and they work!!!

I have purcahsed a Maruti Esteem VX 1998. The car has following problems:

1. One of the cylinder in engine has an adapter - Mechanic is suggesting to go for complete engine overhauling (cost 25000/-)

2. Power windows get stuck often - Mechanic is suggesting that due to vigrous use, the motors bush has gone and either change to manual (cost 1000/- per window) or new motor (7500/- per window).

I would like to know your views whether I should invest money in this car or sell it (mechanic's guess: 90000/-). I have shown it to 3-4 mechanics and all are suggesting to go for engine overhauling and they say it will be a good value for money after that.

Secondly, if I go for engine overhauling, should I get it done from local mechanic or authorised dealer.

yuu should go to ur local mechanic b,coz cost of overhouling will less.I overhoul the esteem engine in16000.u blieve.
