Some of the popular Italian CNG Kits are Lovato, BRC, Landi Renzo, Bedini, OMVL etc.

CNG retrofittment costs around 40K. All retrofittments are required to be registered with RTO - it is also endorsed in the RC Book.

I have a Swift Dzire VXi. I want to convert it to LPG.

I would like to know how much it would cost me and which make is good?

Also, there is enough boot space so should I go for a Round or cylinder type LPG tank?

Sir,
I have recently (March 2008) purchased one Xeta-GLE. Now I am in a bit dialema -- what to do -- shall I get fitted LPG with an authorised Tata Service Centre -- which they are very much willing to do. OR shall I approach the company for an exchange.

I asked the Tata people about my wish and the people from Tata Motors at Pune recently phoned me to convey that they are also in the process of lunching such a scheme in the near future.

Now the question is -- will it be worth of exchanging a 65 BHP vehicle (Xeta-GLE) with  a  62 BHP  machine (Xeta-LPG), just  because the fuel cost is priced half that of petrol?
My daily run is 30-35 Km on an average with occasional drive on the highway.

Hi Sanjib

It all depends upon the price you have to pay for the LPG to be fitted in your car. if you are driving 30km per day in a month it would amount to 900km. Price for runnign a petrol car for 900km is atleast Rs.2700 but that is the ideal case it should infact be about Rs.3500. and running  it on LPG should cost less than Rs1500.

As far as 62bhp or 65bhp thing is concerned there is not much of a difference that you could make out. and anywasy you are mostly driving in the city so it would not be even more noticable.

Please keep in mind !!! Sadly the Petrol prices are not going to come down ...

Dear Prabal,
Thnx for the reply. U have done a good job by clearing my hesitation on LPG conversion, particularly the loss of performance in terms of BHP and that it is not noticable in the city drive.
Can u just tell me the cost per Km of running in petrol vs LPG. For me the calculation goes as follows:
Petrol (HP Power) = Rs.56 per ltr. -- Xeta mileage: 11 Km. => Rs.5 / Km.
LPG    (??)           = Rs.31 per ltr  -- Xeta mileage:  8  Km(?) => Rs.4 /Km.
Secondly, the availability of LPG is a big factor apart from the cost fitment. So far there are only five LPG stations in Kolkata; but they will definitely rise  as more and more cars come with LPG.
I am in the plan of going for the conversion around Diwali -- I have heard that Tata Motors may come with a discount scheme at that time and I wish that I get back to u before my final decision, ofcourse if u donot feel disturbed.

1. cost of good italian kit ........ 18-20k

2. any popular italian kit .......... lovato . brc..... etc

3. cylinder type is advisable

Hi Sanjib

One of my friends has installed a LPG kit in his Zen(old model, not estilo). And as he says in 15 ltrs he runs his zen for about 300km. This comes out to be little more than Rs. 1.5/km. Now if that is the case in zen, I think even in the worst case your XETA would go rounds in not more than Rs. 2.5/km 'in the worst case'.

For an average well maintained, well driven car Rs. 2/km is very much possible.

And please feel free to revert back. I will me more than happy if i can be of any good help to you.

Changing petrol to LPG seems the only respite for me personally... sitting in traffic burning fuel for no reason... i read in www.talkingabouttorque.com that some companies are going the CNG way

Which is better in the long run(CNG or LPG)... in terms of performance as well as long term maintainence

In CNG there is a substantially loss - I understand it is around 20 to 25%.  Therefore, not withstanding the comparison with LPG, CNG is definitely not advisable in smaller cars.

Can CNG be fitted to a 1.4 L Mahindra Logan? I am iterested in retrofitting my Oct 07 Mahindra Logan GLE
