Hi Folks,

Need expert advice. I plan to change 2 tyres for WagonR LX(without power steering, 2004 model) due to issues with wear n tear(cut on sidewall). Remaining 2 tyres are fine.Current tyre size is 145/70R13.

I am looking at two options:

Option 1. Change 2 tyres to Apollo Acelere(145/70R13). In that case, would like to know where to mount the tyres(Front or Rear Axle).

Option 2. Change 4 tyres. In that case, which is the best size Apollo Acelere(145/70R13) OR Apollo Acelere(155/65R13) OR Apollo Acelere(155/70R13) keeping in mind that I want to use the same set of rims.

Hope I am able to explain my requirements fully. Please let me know in case any other info is required.

Best Rgds,

Vipin

Hi Vipin,

Its always better to change all four tyres.I think wagon R has too slim tyres which makes its scary in high speeds. Its a good idea to go for 155 instead of stock 145.You can find better tyres than apollo like bridgestone, michelin etc.

I agree with Onkar.

Technically speaking, all the four tyres should have equal wear and tear for everything like suspension, shockers, ride quality, handling etc. Hence after certain period of time we go in for tyre rotation (cross changing of all four wheels to achieve equal wear and tear). So changing tyres in unequal time intervals are not advised.

Thanks Sujit and Onkar.

Yes ideally i should change all 4 tyres, however there are constraints in terms of vitamin M, hence in all probability i will go with the replacement of 2 tyres only.

Request specific response to my earlier stated queries by all experts.

WagonR's OE size is 145/70/R13

If u're upsizing, get 155/65/R13 if its available...it would suffice. This gives you very good look.

You can try for 155/65 R13 Michelin XM1.

Thanks Sujit. This provides me response for option 2. Would request your help with option 1 i.e. if i decide to go for replacement of 2 tyres only then whether i should get the same mounted on front or rear axle.

Binoy...Initially I also had the same thought however Icame accross this extract on JK Tyre website. Review and suggest.

"Many dealers and customers alike are of the view that when two tyres on a car are to be replaced , they should be fitted in front. This was the case few years ago, when it was felt that conrtrol of the vehicle was more critical to front deflations and therefore new and less vulnerable tyres should be fitted in front.

But the modern recommendation by tyre industry is "New tyres to rear". This applies to both front and rear driven vehicles. Primarily its justification is increased safety particularly in wet conditions. Partly worn tyres have poor water drainage, leading to aquaplaning and thus tendency to oversteer and loss of control. Similarly straight line braking in wet can be adversely affected. "

What is the tyre specification of WagonR VXI? How about going in for those? I think they are mounted on the same rim as Wagon LX/LXI, correct me if I am wrong.
