Sonata suffers the highest resale. The Luxury cars from Hyundai (Elantra / Sonata) which are excellent VFM suffers resale.

That too is a problem in this case as the car is not meant to be kept for more than 3 years.

Otherwise, both earlier Elantr / now Sonata CRDi are excellent cars.

I look at resale from a slightly different viewpoint - its not the percentage I will lose, but the actual amount I will lose on resale.

If I buy a Skoda for 20 lakhs, it may only lose about 40% in value in 3 years (assuming Skoda resale remains constant, which is not the case because Skoda resale values have been falling recently) then my total loss is 8 lakhs.

If I buy a Sonata for 16 lakhs and I lose say 60% in the same period (unlikely, but we will consider the scenario because you will find fewer buyers for the Sonata than for the Skoda) then your actual loss is 9.6 lakhs.

The difference between the two is about 1.6 lakhs and I can assure you that you will spend roughly that much more on Skoda maintenance over 3 years as against a Hyundai.

Yes, the same Example is quoted by myself in the 1st para.

However, the car has to be sold after 3 years - which will be very hard for Sonata - considering that even when newly launched - the car does not sell.

But yes, definately worth a try. I will test drive that also.

Spot on.

Considering the VFM Factor, Superb tops the list. Infact, the power delivery Torque of 250 Nm@1500 rpm is the best for city driving as against Accord 3.5 339@5000.

Confusion is between Captiva and Superb.

1 is SUV and other Luxury Saloon.

Skoda servicing / ASS can give nightmares. The dealer support is pathetic. Further, maintenance is also high compared to Chevy.

And most important - resale. Will decide when I will be in India during 18th Sept - 27th Sept.

woah okay wait a minute. you live in mumbai. i never took that into account. buddy you should go for the SUV man. sedans are good and all but in the mumbai rains. your superb may get stuck in the rain. if it breaks down and water goes in. and you know how it is man.

chevy can sit 7 people instead of 5. in case of a car. plus its an automatic. so in stop and go traffic in mumbai you can be calm and cool. hassle free driving. water wading in SUVs is more for sure. plus 4x4 and esp on the slippery roads help very much.

i take it back what i said before you should go for the SUV!!! GO for CAPITVA.

As I havent lived in Mumbai, I'm not sure if the roads get slippery enough to warrant 4WD.  However, the Captiva is primarily a 4x2 and not a 4x4 - unless you go for the top end automatic version which is the only one with 4x4.

@ raju,

as per ur list, i would suggest u to go with if a sedan than the new accord 3.5ltr which is a great & fun to drive car with lots of power in it.

if it is a suv than go for the captiva AT as it is a diesel so will save u a lot on fuel bills, it has a triptronic gearbox so u can drive manual or in automatic mode & its of great convinience while driving in tight city traffic & it also has a 4x4 available in it so u can go offroading whenever needed without any tension.

these are the only 2 cars i would suggest as they are best among their lot as per me.

fortuner is a good car but has not that much features what captiva has & there is a no option of automatic & it has received so much of bookings that ull have to wait a lot of months to get it & i dont think that the wait is worth it.
