Hello

I am looking for a sedan. Can be diesel or petrol.

My monthly run is 500-600 KM/Month.

My budget is Rs 800000 lacs (can stretch it to Rs. 900000 lacs maximum)

Features I am looking for are ABS, decent stereo, power windows and power steering and will prefer Airbag as-well and good rear seat space

Options I have in mind are Sx4 / Honda city / Verna Crdi SX

need a fuel efficent car - average should be atleast 13+ in city with 100% AC on

maintanace cost should be recent

My suggestion is Verna CRDi (SX or normal). It fits into your bill completely. Very fuel-efficient, yet highly powerful machine with absolutely low maintenance cost. All features you have asked for are there, except airbags.

With run of 600km/pm , you should opt. for a petrol car, unless you think that your run can increase in future, to 1500km/pm or so(if this is the case opt diesel).I am saying not to go for diesel with low run because you will no be able to recover extra initial cost by your fuel bills, spend on diesel.

Verna is good/better only in diesel variant.

I feel you should also add Ford Fiesta 1.6 S to your list.

I think in Honda city definitely you get better interiors, better ride, better comfort, may be better FE(in mentioned above) but then also i think its over priced, just because of its honda badge.I my opinion if you have to stretch hard for it,don't stretch.

Consider Ford Fiesta 1.6 & SX4 these are better VFM cars.

You get better build quality, interiors, handling in fiesta compared to SX4,in SX4,get better ASS,ground clearence.

See this comparision (Ford Fiesta 1.6 & SX4 & Honda city)

It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

Someone told me that the maintenance cost of a diesel engine is high.. That’s the reason I was considering for a petrol sedan as my run is just 500KM per month. i took a test drive for verna crdi last week ... its amazing ... only thing i was concerned about verna is the engine and maintenance cost as i never had a diesel car before...

Any idea what’s the average cost of a standard service of verna crdi ?

I read on carwale.com that sx4 diesel will be out soon... Is it worth waiting for?? The only thing I don’t like about maruti cars is interiors ... but they have good after sales service and less expensive maintenance cost.

Never used a Hyundai so cannot say anything about that.

Ford maintenance and parts cost is very high so don’t want that … and the problem with sx4 is fuel economy and not so good interiors if you compare it with verna or honda

Overall Verna Diesel makes more sense, however as everybody said, for a 500km/month running, a diesel car doesn't sound apt economically. But since you don't like SX4, I still feel Verna Diesel is best bet for you. Verna has most of the localized parts like maximum Hyundai/Maruti cars and maintenance cost is considerably low. Diesel Verna's paid service should cost 500-600 (maximum) more than the Verna Petrol.

The huge difference in maintenance of petrol and diesel cars is no more.

SX4 diesel is on cards and should have been launched in August but there is something that is keeping Maruti from launching it. I am pretty positive that it will hit roads before Diwali.

just to add the SX4 is reportedly a 1.3L with VGT. It will not match the performance of the verna in that case.

@Deep- dont be in the dilema "should I get the car as soon as it is launched". This is a very common confusion with people. There were times when cars were launched and later redesigned/relaunched after they got lot of customer complains for issues with the car. My guess is that the diesel will be around 7-8 lacs+ but nothing can be confirmed before it gets officially announced

Why break rules when following them is much easier!!!

No clue. However, looking at the current price differences in Ritz/Swift petrol & diesel, it should be in the tune of 65-90k ka price difference above the corresponding petrol model.
