No clue. However, looking at the current price differences in Ritz/Swift petrol & diesel, it should be in the tune of 65-90k ka price difference above the corresponding petrol model.

i agree so thats makes 7.8 + .9 = 8.7 lacs on road in delhi .. right ??

So do u guys recommend waiting for SX4 diesel ??

Let’s suppose if the engine is 1.6 for sx4 diesel.... And the price is 8.5 on road and the price of verna is 8.1 on road..... Which car will you suggest then??? Considering the other features similar as sx4 petrol

If Chevy will price its cruze in the range of altis and civic than it will not sell. They have to price in the range 9L to sustain in the market as given a choice people will choose a Honda or Toyota brand over any other brand in the same price range.

Indian car market behaves pretty strangely sometimes. GM has done pretty well with the Optra in the past (read 2003-2004) and the most selling versions were top-of-the-line 1.8 LT versions. These sold for around 12.5 on the road which was pretty much in the Toyota or Skoda teritorry. And this too was after the success-followed-by-failure of Opel in India. Dropping price doesn't result into better sales, always. But GM doesn't have a choice this time. They can't go wrong with this car in terms of pricing at least. I am damn sure the car will be priced reasonably.

Too many assumptions, my friend. But anyway, the SX4 Diesel definitely makes more sense over Verna considering your assumptions. 1.6 MJD is quite unlikely but if it comes, it sure will be a fun car!

Thank you everyone for trying to help me out in deciding a sedan…

So my question is it worth waiting for sx4 diesel or should I go for Verna CRDi Sx?? personally i dont like the interiors of any maruti car .. dont want them to be excellent but atleast comparable with verna or any other car in that segment.

The on road price of Verna CRDi Sx in Gurgaon after all the discounts is Rs 8,15,000 and the price of Honda city is Rs 8,60,000 in Gurgaon on road
There is a price difference of 45000 between Verna Diesel and Honda city petrol ….

Verna +ives:
- Automatic climate control
- Diesel version
- Alloy wheels
- Mileage Overall is good if compared with a Honda petrol
- 185/65 R14 as compared to 175 / 65 R15 in Honda

Honda +ives
- Airbags
- Steering Mounted Audio Control

I understand that people are suggesting me to go for a petrol car considering that diesel car is expensive then a petrol car as I won’t be able to take out the extra cost from diesel car as my average run is not more than 500 - 600 KM /month. So considering the price and variant what do u recommend??? I am getting a diesel car for less money then a petrol car. So what do u suggest now?

Hi

Sx4 will not be launched this year.

Why does some X,Y and Z keep contemplating that the Sx4 will be launched this year.It will probably be launched mid 2010 or even later. Please dont get get people hopes high and dissapoint then when it is not launched this year.

It nothing personal but lets be pratical.

"Maruti had promised that 2009 was going to be the year of increasing its presence in the diesel end of the market and had plans to push its premium sedan SX4 into the diesel category. But the company is running into delays in procuring the diesel engine from Fiat.
Fiat is already a supplier for Suzuki's SX4 range in Europe with a 1.9 litre engine.
In India, Maruti is keen on a 1.6 litre engine to help keep the price tag relatively lower but currently Fiat has licensed Suzuki to make only the 1.3 litre unit in India, not the 1.6 or 1.9 for that matter.

Maruti was keen on launching the diesel SX4 since Honda's new City came in to the market in October last year.

But Fiat did not want a clash with its new Linea that came into India this January. Fiat is expected to first launch a more powerful diesel Linea and that’s why the SX4 gets pushed to 2010.
This may not be great for Maruti as the SX4 has been steadily losing share with the Honda City now outselling the SX4. In the last six months, Honda sold 15,000 Cities while Maruti sold just 8000 SX4s.
Maruti is hoping the diesel SX4 revives the model's fortunes as it currently also gets cannibalised by the Swift Dzire.

Maruti is sticking to its volumes strategy and the new SX4 will only add to that but by ensuring that the engines are made in India, Maruti is also keeping one eye firmly on the margins."

So, no SX4 Diesel this year?

@Bharadwaj,

When we published the news regarding SX4's launch in August, we were told by more than confirmed sources that SX4 is not coming up with a 1.6 MJD because of thre reasons mentioned in the source of your news. Our source told us that Maruti doesn't want to lose out to the competition further and is launching the SX4 1.3 MJD for a while. Anyways, we never guaranteed its launch nor did I suggest him to wait for it. Moreover the person looking to buy this car doesn't seem to be in hurry and has as much time as one year. Speculations are speculations and you never know till last moment.

@Uneet,

While copying pasting the quotes, I forgot to rename it to Deep. Of course you never said it.

Bharadwaj,

Neither you meant any offence nor I took any. But since I was one of the persons who talked about SX4 diesel and I also work with CarWale which published this news last month. Hence thought of clarifying.

Please do not say sorry.

I am all in for Verna SX CRDi. Being a diesel, it will bring a smile on your face every time you visit fuel station. In fact you will feel like driving more. Verna CRDi is better VFM over City in my opinion.

Still my suggestion is, you test drive both the vehicles before jumping to the conclusion.
