I know, I know that there is a "Search Forums" link at the top. But I feel it would be nice if there is a "quick search" - a text box and a button - at the top of the forum page, just below the line containing the "Search Forums" link. Entering the search text and hitting the search button would so a simple/generic search and return the results in a new window (that's how I think it should be - its upto Banwari & team).

Again not something that is mind-blowing - but surely would be a nifty useful little tool.

Edit: Just checked the search page (and why didn't I do it earlier?) - it has almost exactly what I had in mind - and as of now it is simple enough to be directly integrated into the main forum page sans the two search option (i.e., default search in all threads). The main search screen can be used for an advanced search feature with things like AND/OR/CONTAINS/EXACT PHRASE type options.

Also, with the search box on the forum page itself (and on top before the threads start) there will be a greater chance of people actually searching for something before posting. This will also have the effect of somewhat reducing redundant threads (same question/topic repeated in different ways - of which I am sure to be guilty of Wink).

S = k.I^2, where S is the amount of stupidity a species possesses, I is the intelligence the species has and k is the universal constant of stupidity.

Guys,

As most of you have a clue that we are in the process of coming up with an all new search engine for the forum, however, I'm not sure if it will match your requirements.

The new search engine would be a vast improvement over what we have today in terms of the way the searches are carried out, however, it may not be as good in terms of presenting the search results. The new search system will be something like Google search engine and will show results in a similar fashion. It will be fast and the results will be more accurate but you won't get information such as who started the thread, who posted what etc.

Krishna,

Google Custom Search or Intra-Site search will be nothing but a similar search as what I pointed out above. I don't think it will go deeper into our database and categorize the posts in terms of poster, posting dates etc.

The new search should be live in two weeks' time, max.
