Temporary usage of my car in Chennai

Hi all,

Iam shifting to from mumbai to chennai. iam not sure about how long i will be there in chennai. i have few queries

1. can i pay tax for 1 year in chennai? for this noc from mumbai is required?

2. after 1 year can i pay tax for another 1 more year? or shud i get registered by giving life time tax?

hi Rafael,

what vehicle do you own. the local rto rules differ from state to state. if you are bringing the vehicle only for a short period then u can go for your option 1. Pay road tax for a particular term. If you are shifting permanently then suggest you get re-registered to the state.

Thanks Vinod for the info. Mine is a 2004 model 800. Iam really not sure about the stay in chennai It can be either 1 year or more than that.

can i get noc from mumbai rto and still pay 1 year tax at chennai?

Yes, you can do this and if suppose your stay is extended beyond a year, you can pay the RT for another year.
