I don't think ,you can have the same  (whole number AP 31 M 786.... ) for your new car,you can have last 4 number same (786...) this is as per my place and knowlege.

For getting the last 4 numbrers of your choice you have to pay some extra fees,  for example:5000,1000,15000 or more(in Rs.) this deferent for defferent states. You find out at RTO.

I am not well informed about these things, Feroz & Pankaj may guide you better & if wrong please correct.

It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.

Rao gaaru

Anant is right. Until and unless your vehicle is scrapped beyond reassembling which has to be certified by the RTO, you can never get the same (all alpha numerics) number. You may get last four digits, if avaibale, by paying additional amount for special numbers.  Enquire with your area RTO.

Good luck!

OT: Being a Rao gaaru, how come you are interested in 786!Surprised

786 is a sacred figure for some communities and is always in high demand...I think to get even the last four same digits you have, it may require some bribe and approach other than the usual fee you have to pay for special numbers.

You are right. That was what i was thinking when I was popsting my view. Rao must have been lucky to get this no. for his M800 or he might have purchsed a 2nd hand one.

In any case it is not allowed to have two vehicles with same registration mark.

As registration number(except fancy numbers) are allotted serially, it is not possible to get an old number to a new vehicle. So even after the vehicle is destroyed after approval from RTO, you  will not get its number transferred to another vehicle.

As Anant pointed out, Rao can get the numberals same from another series of alphabets.

Here are the details of fancy number allocation at AP.

I heard that AP RTO have flexible rules. They allow out of state vehicle to re register at AP without changing the original number, of course with a fee. Do contact any RTO or agent to get the exact details.. and please post the updates here for the benefit of others..

In Kerala only Muslims are interested in 786, because it is the numerical representation of Arab sentence "Bismillahi rahmani raheem".
