I plan to buy a new car in the next 1-2 weeks.  Have checked lot of cars but am not able to decide which one to buy.  Am from Mumbai, budget 6.5 L, Avg. 650 kms per month, would like to go for a sedan.  Looking for value for money, good mileage, zero/less maintenance, good after sales, comfortable.  I checked Ford Fiesta Limited Edition (Rs. 6.2 L on road, 1.6 Litre), Aveo (Rs. 7.2 L on road) and SX4 (Approx Rs. 7 L on road).  I liked Ford Fiesta, but would like to know more and need assistance in finalising which one to buy.  Thanks

Ford Fieata is a good buy. It delivers better mileage when compared to the other 2 cars. It is easy to drive and very stable at high speeds.

Fiesta is very small from inside, see the back seat width, height and leg room, head room etc  in Autocar magazine .Fiesta is an old model due for replacement shortly so you will lose on resale which is already low .Aveo is a low selling car and has good discounts and poor resale as it does not provide driving pleasure.SX4 is the best of the lot and is most practical car which is fully loaded and reasonably priced, backed by Maruti service and best resale value of the lot.

Hi Deepak -

Your monthly running needs to be 2500-300 km to justify a diesel option. In case that is not- The Fiesta is ruled out. It is a commoner amongst petrol and is worth consideration only if you compare diesel cars.

Within your budget, ppl have mentioned Aveo,Sx4,Fiesta,Linea:

My 2 cents :

'After sales service' is very very important. This should be amongst the primary decision criteria in your buying choice. Sx4 wins here as Fiat has Tatas holding their pants up & Ford is nothing much to talk about vs Maruti.I havent picked Aveo in any of the analysis bcoz they need to sell enough AVEOs to think for 'AFTERsales'! It is better left alone to ponder over its bad looks and performance.

Handling - The Sx4 has been developed from an SUV platform. As you would have already noticed (have you?),the Sx4 comes with the highest ground clearance in its class. This means that you can not only use this car in the city traffic but also HAPPILY go for highway excursions,Indian style off roading at free will.

Btw,SX4 is the only car available in India to be participating the World Rally Championship!

Tyres & suspension set up- The Sx4 comes with soft compound tyres and offers superior grip vs any other car in its class.

Economy - The Sx4 is definately a heavy car but not very much so.The max differenece in fuel economy between these cars is 1km +/-.Given your running of 650 kms /month,this translates into an annual savings or loss of Rs.3K approx depending on which car you pick. That it!

Built - Sx4 Sx4 Sx4 second only to Linea

My pick is Sx4 : Best after sales support, excellent road presence, superb ground clearance, reasonable economy, remarkable value for money.

Go for Sx4 man - And if you have ANY questions on ANY aspect on ANY of the cars above..I'll be happy to help.Just be specific

Thanks Mayank.  Have not TD SX4 but ahve heard a lot of mixed reviews with regards to handling, comfort and mileage and poor visibility (due to "A" pillar and a huge boot).  Would TD SX4 this weekend and will make a choice.

Hi

Correction

F.E - Fiesta > Sx4 > Linea

F.E - Linea > Sx4 > Fiesta

Ford Fiesta

Owners liked

  • Solid build quality
  • Competent range of engines
  • Superb ride and handling package
  • Driver-oriented nature
  • Sporty 1.6S variant

Owners disliked

  • Inconsistent service
  • Cramped interiors
  • Small niggling issues
  • Fuel-efficiency of the 1.6

The smaller yet significant things

  • Horrible quality rubber lining and low plastic quality.
  • Ford made a bad choice with offering standard MRF tyres. Change upon delivery.
  • Many non-ABS cars had the rear end stepping out under extreme braking.
  • Chunky steering wheel is great to hold and to use.
  • When loaded, underbody frequently scrapes the road / speedbreakers.
  • The headlights are exceptionally bright and very effective.
  • Road noise is prominent on the inside.
  • Stock audio system churns out decent sound quality. Double-din units are MP3 compatible.
  • Nifty touches like a damped ashtray, a single cup-holder which expands into two, illuminated glovebox and more.
  • DTE (Distance to empty) meter very handy. Ditto for the outside temperature display.
  • The air-con, though chilling, has a noisy blower.
  • Bonnet opener is inconveniently placed on the left side.
  • Lots of cubby holes on the inside boost practicality.
  • Still not as exciting to drive as the Ikon.
  • Drilled type pedals of the 1.6 S are delicious!
  • Some commented that the driver's seat could have been positioned higher.
  • The exhaust tail-pipe is neatly concealed from view.
  • Fuel Efficiency

    1.6 : 10.0 (City) / 14.6 (Highway)

    Upkeep Costs

    Above average

    Overall Reliability

    Good

    Problem Areas

Creaks and rattles, loosely fitted plastic parts come off, air-conditioner, water pump, multi-info display

    Resale Value

    Good
