Hi everyone

Is there anyone who is deaf (Hearing Impaired) but drives car on his/her own? If yes, please share your experience on your driving and issues you had faced/face while driving. Also mention how you manage with traffic police or others who find you as deaf.

Regards Som

Rishita

This is just a confusion - which forum would be suitable for this thread. Thats y i posted same thread in two forums.

U were expected to answer positively rather than raising a useless issue

Thanks for understanding

@Som Sarkar,

Well, it is not useless to point out duplicate threads - you will realise this once people start responding on both threads. You will then find it difficult to track which post is where, in response to what and where you last posted. In short you might get confused yourself!

For hearing impaired people, I guess you need the proper RTO documents plus indicate clearly on the car that the driver is impaired (so that other drivers know this and will be careful around that car). However, I am not sure if hearing impaired people can drive in the first place - or if there are any restrictions on them.

Rohit

Thanks for ur solid reply. And now i understand i better should post thread in one forum.

Anyway please can any MOD remove the same thread http://www.carwale.com/Forums/ViewThread-9592.html from the 'Introduction' forum?

However, ur suggestion is indeed good. Though i've not been using such kinds of stickers on my car, i still have not faced any issue except one day - on that day i got stopped by a traffic police for jumping a red signal by mistaken, he then asked me something, i even can't understand what he was saying, instead i explained him that i'm deaf. Then he seemed got shocked and his eyes got larger like a dumb ghost (that time was around 10pm at night). Anyway without further communication, i took out my license and showed him. He checked and tried to explain me by some gestures that i shouldn't drive just because of deafness. What the hell i should stop driving only bcoz of deafness?! I feel carefulness is more important than deafness, if u drive carefully and depend on mirrors (interior and side) and control ur speed while turing round to left/right side along with checking whether any car is coming or not from other side etc etc - what not in the list of Do's to avoid any accident.

Even every1 is aware of almost 100% accidents happen due to only overspeeding/careless driving even those culprit drivers are normal hearing - right?

Anyway, what i want to know is if there is any1 deaf or some1 known to deaf who drive and face such unusual incident/restriction issued by traffic police or others

Regards

Som

Yes, Som, I understand your concern perfectly, but I think Rohit's post above, explaining the confusion that the two posts on the same topic would have created, must have cleared your doubts, if any.

(P.S. Please no offense meant, none done as far as your query is concerned..your duplicate thread will surely be taken care of, rest assured of the sameSmile)

@ Rohit: Thanks for clearing the confusion, buddy

Thanks Pankaj/Rishita

Anyway no view-points on my thread yet! Waiting for at least 2-3 views on this

Let me add one more thing - this NDTV-Auto really helped me to understand the reason beyond delay in delivery of new cars. i had booked for swift dzire LXI (silky silver) on 11th July, after R&D on many complaints/forums including this, i realized i may get my car delivered by end of September or early October. Let me see.

Cheers

Som

May be due to the fact that none of the members belong to that category of hearing challenged.

BTW I wonder how one can get a driving license in India with hearing disbility. The medical certificate to be produced  or self declaration for applying driving license clearly specifies this.

I completely agree with Som that accidents are happening only due to carelessness, but legally it is not possible to get a driving license for a person who has disabilities, which affect driving (I am not aware if there are any relaxations or exceptions.).

I personally know a man who has lost his left hand, but drives loaded trucks in mountain terrains without any accident so far--but he got his license before amputation.

My feeling is that persons with physical challenges will be extra careful while driving; hence the chance of accidents due to their fault will be less.

Feroz is absolutely right in stating this, may be the C/W forum has not yet come across such a query before.

I would like to make a request here to Som, that if possible, please keep posting some thing or other (related to the issue) in this thread, so that the thread is kept alive, on the first few pages of “Today’s Posts”.. If the thread is pushed beyond that, it might not attract the attention of readers / members as easily (My thoughts, again, no offense to anyone).
