Confused between A-star vxi or Ritz vxi

Hi Experts,

I am an employee and wanna buy my first car. We are a family of 3 (me, my hubby, my mother) with a 1 year old kid. I will use this mostly for office usage and drop my kid at day care etc. I wanna buy a fuel and mainteneace efficient car which will be not so heavy on my pocket.

I am thinking whether to go for A-star (for best mileage) or brand new Ritz. Was so confused about A-star. Any problems with A-star? Will it be a better buy? May i go for A-star for long term usage like 5-years?

Dear Rama Jyoti, welcome to carwale. Though A* will serve your purpose of F.E. & low maintenance, it has some cons which you should consider when you are buying a car, which will accompany you for 5-6 years. The rear seat comfort is not good in the car and so is the Boot space. It has very small window at rear, which makes rear seat most undesirable space in the car. Boot space can handle only small carry bags and not the suitcases or even midium size soft luggauges. So you can consider this car only if it is a second car in your family and you are not going to use it for Long drives. For daily city commuting, it is really a good car. However I will suggest you to wait for 15-20 days, as Maruti is launching face-lifted Zen estilo with the same engine which is doing duty in A*. If Maruti handles the small issues well, Zen estilo will be a great alternative of A*, though little costly.

Ritz is ultimate car to own. But compared to Ritz, I-10 seems better packaged car. However you can take call on any of these two ( Ritz / I-10) cars, as per your likings and budget.

Thanks for your points. I went to hyundai showroom and had a look at i10. Everything was gr8 except mileage. They said mileage will be 10-13 kmpl. I felt in long run that's less.

i10 & Ritz generally return 12-14 in city & 16-18 on highway (depending upon the driving conditions & style).

Like-wise, A-Star generally returns 15-17 in city & 19-21 on highway.

Estilo new, suggested by Bhavin, is expected return same as the present one does, i.e. 13-15 in city & 17-19 on highway OR say 1 km less (in line with i10/Ritz).

What would be your monthly run/usage?  If it isn't high, the difference in the mileage may not matter.  In that case, it's better to go for a bigger/better car.

My daily usage will be 25km. Maximum usage will be to and fro to office and dropping my child at day care etc. 99% of city usage i can say...

Well Rama in that case I would suggest you Ritz or i 10.... A star is not worthy of long ownership due to reasons given by Bhavin. Ritz & i10 have improved engine and will be better for city driving.

Lets hear from Pankaj As well.

Do take a test drive with your family and i guess that can conclude your confusion.

With a 5 year ownership and a small kid in the family it is better to go for ritz and have that extra space.  Go for Ritz if your budget permits it.

Rama, looking to your monthly run/usage of 750 kms & the difference in the mileage of the cars.... i10/Ritz (vis-a-vis AStar) would cost you an additional fuel bill of approx. Rs.500/- per month.  These days, that's a meager amount even for service class people like you & me who can afford a car.  Besides/Importantly, it's definitely worth the space/comfort the bigger/better car will offer you for 5 years or more (long-term ownership).
