Hi everybody ,

I m new to this forum and this is my first post . I have a query if someone plz help .

I am buying a new car and currently residing in rohtak , but plan to shift to Gurgaon after 1 yr or so . Though Gurgaon is a district of haryana , but its also comes under NCR region . So Will i have to re-register my vehicle in gurgaon ,or the rohtak no. will do ? Is there any need than to pay my road tax again .

I am more concerned as i have come to know that BS IV engines are being launched next Year and BS III ones won`t be registered in NCR regions after that . Is it true ?

What if i buy the car from Gurgaon and keep it for 1 yr . in Rohtak . Any problem ?

Do all car manufacturers will change there engines including Hyundai i10 .

Plz advice .

Thanks .

Have a look at this thread/discussion on the subject matter.

I think it would in that case be better to buy it in Gurgaon/NCR & use it in Rohtak for a year.  For the purpose you may have to pay 1-year tax at Rohtak - if acceptable like in various other states - else, pay life-time tax & seek refund (pro-rata) while relocating back to Gurgaon within a year.

RTO rules vary a little from state to state. Please check finer details locally.

Thank You so much Mr. Pankaj for the reply . But i still have doubts ... (am a newbie in these matters )...

1. Road tax has to be re-paid and vehicle  re-registered when transferring from one state to another state ... or is it necessary even form one district to another of same state as in my case ( rohtak and gurgaon being two districts of haryana )?

2. Is my case  different bcz of Gurgaon being considered under NCR region ... r rules different for Gurgaon ?

3. So will i have to re-register if i am driving my vehicle in another district of my state and pay road tax again ?

Kindly help . Am a bit confused .

Hi Pradeep,

Buy the vehicle where it is cheaper and more convenient for you (registration can only be done on furnishing some kind of residence proof, so your native city of residence would be a good choice here).

As regards road tax, it should not be a problem within the state, as the tax is collected by the state government and not local bodies. If we take boundaries too seriously, one would think of having to pay taxes for moving from one ward of city to another ward.. after all the tax collection centers could be different... Smile

I know I am talking without referring to the LAW here, but this is what practice is. (Feroz - could you please comment about the Law part here?)

But location of registration is important when you are going through standards related transition like you mention, and the two locations between which transfer is sought are in different states. Between Rohtak and Gurgaon, I should think it is not important to pay attention to this factor as well.

Gaurav, you will have to seek duplicate RC Book from the RTO concerned/Delhi.  For the purpose, you will first require to file an FIR with local/Delhi police.

Based on the duplicate RC Book so issued, you can seek NOC in favour of Bhopal.  You will require to produce Insurance Policy (seek duplicate if lost - no FIR required), PUC, evidence of residential address of Bhopal etc.

Thereafter you will have to get the car re-registered at Bhopal (based on Delhi NOC) by paying life-time tax as applicable to old vehicles on depreciated value assessed by RTO/Bhopal (you can seek pro-rata refund of life-time tax paid earlier at Delhi - cumbersome job).

I would suggest... if you wish to sell your car, sell it in Delhi itself (after seeking duplicate RC Book). It will save you from the hassles of re-registration etc. at Bhopal.
