Friends, I purchased a Safari EX (2.2 VTT Dicor) just 10 days back and have been driving within Delhi City. Yesterday evening the clutch system failed after just 330KM on the meter.I am seriously worried!!

Now this is supposed to be a tough vehicle for off road use!!  I am worried how can the clutch fail so early. Any other person faced similar problems with the Safari 2.2 VTT Dicor?? Who in Tata Motors should be contacted??

Take it to authorised service station rt away. It should be reported seriously. If there is manufacturing defect, it has to be rectified. And dont be soft to them in any other way. Thats the best way to do it.

I finally managed to hear from the Workshop... There seems to be a problem with the master cylinder of the hydraulic clutch system. They are replacing the complete assembly of the same. Thank-god this happened under warranty period!! I also understand from Tata Motors that this is a one off happening.... But whatever.. as a new car owner, my peace of mind definitely got disturbed...  hope the car now runs as it is supposed to......!!

Thanks Binoy Thomas!  That really puts back some confidence in me!! I have requested Tata Motors to have the vehicle thoroughly checked-up before delivering it to me!! I hope this time I will have some peace of mind!!

The Safari's and Scorpios have the problem of clutch failure. Rather should I say clutch slippage. This problem exists in both the Safari DICOR engines and even in booth the CRDe engines of the Scorpio. (2.2 and 2.6)

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

Well Rachit, I don't claim to be an expert on cars/SUVs......  but in my limited knowledge, I did not feel any clutch slip in the New Safari 2.2 VTT Dicor. In my particular case it was a  Hydraulic  failure and Tata Motors have replaced the same under warranty - there was no problem with the existing clutch plate. Though I will of course keep your point in mind and look-out for clutch slip as I drive further....
