You have enough budget for Punto . Why you want to buy 10 years old cars ? Don't understand really. Any specific reason for selecting Palio or Ikon ?

of the two mentioned by you the ikon, though expensive will be a better buy. The TDCi engine in Ikon is same as that in fiesta. Handling and braking also is very good. Leave out the palio as its a very old car and could be out of market anytime since it did not sell well. Ikon is the best choice among the ones you mentioned. Resale for ikon will be better than the palio (though not by a huge amount). FORD is very good these days when it comes to ASS. Spare parts cost have been reduced by 50%. So the maintenance is pretty much affordable. The other option you could consider would be the Punto diesel.

If you are ready to wait for your new car Punto (diesel) is a good option. In Bangalore Punto has waiting period of up to 2 month. Else Ikon TDCi is best option for you as suggested by Centaur.

OT- between, in past few days itself I have read 2 posts with the same issue. One was from a member who owned a swift dieseli and had met with an accident because of bad braking and now its this thread which has the same content. Does swift have a poor braking? This is the link to the other thread

I don,t think swift has poor braking, atleast  not in my case.

may be its  just the matter of two or three cases.

quite possible but two people have met with such serious accidents that their cars were totalled and that too because of braking. Its hard to believe but has been experienced by people
