BHP stands for brake horse power @ crankshaft. it is always expressed as bhp@rpm. For all IC engines like for these automobile engines the max power is expressed as some bhp at some rpm. At the same time with help of gear box and variable gear ratio we are able to increase torque and reduce engine  brake power. You can see it on the tachometer in ur vehicle. For most of the diesel engines the max torque is achieved at a lower rpm and thus it makes the vehicle properly driven in the city condition. The urge to go down to lower gears comes from this torque figure of the engine. Some precise inferences can be withdrawn from the power/rpm and torque/rpm curve.

I am thankful to all those who said 'NO'. It's because of them I did it myself
