Prabhjot: the tyre sidewall is the thinnest part of the tyre envelope, and that allows the bead of the tyre to align with the rim properly and also allows the tread to be straight, even when the rim is a wee bit thinner than required. I don't think pressures involved are so high as to BEND the rim and damage it.

However, exceed the allowable 20 mm upgrade width, and you will end up with a worse-than-desired setup, with tyre tread bulging and rims eating into the sidewall when tyre is fully inflated etc. Avoid that. Otherwise you should be ok.

And please avoid going lower on aspect ratio, to avoid the problems stated above. Low aspect ratio reduces the sidewall height for a given tyre tread width. This request is a bit in conflict with the rule to keep the total tyre dia as near to stock as possible (to keep handling / pickup and odo/speedo calibration to near stock condition.). Choose your own compromise! Smile

this Rs 500 is for only tyre or tyre + rim?

cost for 14'' alloys?

cost is for one tyre alone

Can I fit 185/70R14 tyre in my 14x5J stock rims or these have to be fitted on wider wheels (5.5j or 6j) ?

185 section can be safetly run on the 5J rims

I have seen a swift having 185 tyres on rims. Will it be safe (any advantages/disadvantages)?

stock size = 165/80R14

what are the prices of different brands for 185/70r14 tyres?

Replies in BOLD, please do a search on tyres and alloys in the forum-there are several threads with a lot of info-thanks

Now my car looks cool and ride quality has improved.

Hi,

I have booked a Ritz Vdi and expecting delivery very soon. Is it advisable to go for a tyre upgrade in case of Ritz if I am going to upsize to 185/R14 fitted in Zxi version? I am hearing from my friend that Fuel consumption goes up with bigger tyres. I would like to know if this drop in FE will be high and if possible, can anyone tell me what will be amount of drop. Say 18Kmpl drops to 14 Kmpl?

PS- I intend to use the stock wheels only and not going for alloys because of Vitamin M deficiency Undecided

Karthik, Reddygaru speaks wisdom!

Vitamin M deficiency patients are advised to refrain from any upgrades and to keep their cars as stock as possible. Car mfrs take utmost care to give you an optimized, winner-out-of-the-box solution. They deserve some respect for their efforts..

Drop in th FE is not as drastic as you imagine. It's max ~1-2 kmpl, assuming you respect the max upgrade width =< 20 mm+ stock width rule, and keep the final wheel dia as close as possible to stock dia.

Thanks Bhardwaj and Krishna for the quick reply. Tyre upgrade during next tyre change makes lot of sense to me.

Sir,

This is my first every post on carwale.com. I Need your serious advise with regard to tyre upsize for my brand new Ritz Lxi purchased on 2nd November 2009. I recently purchased and installed Neo alloys wheels for the car in size 14x6. Can you please help me and advise if this is the right choice for the alloy. The original size of factory fitted rim was 14x5. Now the new alloy wheel is 14x6 which I guess means that the alloy is 1 inch more broader than the factory fitted rim. Can you plz advise if this increase of 1 inch in width could be harmful and possibly unsafe to the suspension. On the Neo wheels site the Neo Titan alloy has been shown as compatible with the Ritz in size 14x6.

Request you to please help me decide if this was an ideal upgrade for my car. Also that if the present standard JK tyres 165 80 R14 will be compatible with the new 14x6 alloy or I would need to change the tyres to a bigger size 185 70 R14(comes in Ritz Zxi) for better compatibility ?

Thanx in advance, Sir please do reply as I am very confused and a little worried if this was right set of alloys for my car.
