engine repair

hi i bought a second hand honda city 2002/ milage 83000 km. i gave to 80000 km service at authorised dealer, and he told me that this car need major repair as at his last service previous owner complaint that its consuming engine oil. i drive this car for 200 km , but did not feel any problem. oe pls advise how can i check if this car needs engine work. regards

Shahid, My suggestion would be, you wait and watch. You have driven 200 kms, check the level of engine oil now, drive the car for 200-300 kms and check again and try to find out the difference, if car is really consuming more engine oil than required, you should get the car checked thoroughly.

dear mr banwari - at last i found  that it consume 1.5 ltr engine oil in runnung of 1200 km. and repair cost of engine is apprx rs 85000/- as estimated by honda agency. now pls advise-

1- shoul i repair the engine , and will it work fine for atleast 3 yrs ?

2-shoul i repaired it at agency or any other garage.

3- i shoul sell this car and bear a loss of 80000/-

What repair did Honda Service Center suggest you? 85,000 rupees is huge repair-cost! What is the problem exactly?

If you have to undergo this maintenance anyhow, try to sell the car off.

But selling off this kind of car may be a problem itself. well try to get this analysed some expert local mechanic that you trust on. He will tell you exactly what your car needs. Generally Auth. always hits hard, they always estimates higher to make bucks.
