Dear Sir

I have a Ford Endeavour which is in the Extended warranty mode. Recently a clutch bearing/ pressure plate component was replaced as I had complained of sound on pressing clutch pedal and not clutch slippage, and I was charged for it, even though I have covered only 19000kms and done all the servicings as per time period and not kilometers covered. I would like to know where i could get information as to what parts are covered and which are not in the extended warranty. Thanks

AFAIK, parts will be charged even in warranty - only the labour is not charged.

Warranty generally covers manufacturing defects, running repairs & replacements of parts arising out of running repairs.

Extended Warranty covers majority/major parts as in case of Warranty but arising out of breakdown (not running repairs).

THe extended warranty is basically an Insurance tie-up between a car manufacturer & some Insurance Company.  THe claim procedure/settlement is different than it is in case of warranty.

Check for terms & conditions.  It varies from car to car.

What is the difference between Running repairs and break down. What so is the exact difference between the Extended warranty and the Warranty?

Darryll, how much did it cost to you? I have to second the description given by Pankaj. Further, please read details in extended warranty, it varies ...

Clutch repair is very hotly debated item under warranty. I don't know your specific circumstances! But I have come across serious clutch problems/repairs @ 5-15,000 km because car was driven in heavy traffic and clutch was not properly used. At times, it is hard to give benefit of doubt if car drove properly initially for few thousand miles.

In a BMW engine case under warranty, owner lost the case in court because he failed to produce any proof that he ever changed engine oil.

But you must pursue your case with warranty agency.

I understand that replacement of parts due to running repairs under warranty refer to replacements of parts due to their improper functioning etc. - while replacements of the same under extended warranty would be if those (parts) cease to function leading to breakdown situation.

Needless to add... Warranty covers breakdown (besides running repairs & manufacturing defects) - while extended warranty (after warranty) covers breakdown only.

As stated before, Warranty is covered by the manufacturers while Extended Warranty is generally covered by some Insurance Company through the manufacturers.

Terms & conditions are vital (vary from car to car) - please check those.

By the way, dealers (accommodative in nature) lodge claims under Extended Warranty as a breakdown case (even if the case is of running repairs).
