Thanks Binoy. I had been to VT last week with no luck on Nissin. If you know any dealer in any part of India that stocks Nissin, it would be great. Getting from US is another option (7.5K) but I will always prefer Indian version.

Feroz, if the 70-300 in question is the one with no built-in autofocus motor then Adam is right. I had come across it around two years ago and it was going for 4.5K. It looked tempting but I was a newbie and the camera I was considering was D40 (no autofocus). I tried hard but I could not take a single perfect picture using zoom. The lens is pretty heavy!

Ban i bought the Nissin from Cochin-Pixetra. They did have ready stock of both Nikon and Canon mount units.I guess Pixetra have show rooms in Bangalore and Hyderabad also. Am not aware of a separate US version though.

Feroz do note that there are two versions of the non AF-S versions, one with the ED elements(much better) and the other without the same. It would be the latter that would be selling for 4.5K. Though great VFM absence of VR/IS makes the upper telephoto end(200-300) only usable on a tripod!

But then this is talk about the Nikon version-Canon has an excellent lens in the 70-300 IS which sells for 10K in grey i guess one should not skip on glass!

The quote I was given for Canon 70-300 IS is 26k. I do not think canon lenses sell with that much difference in grey market. The price quoted seems to be in the range for non IS version. If I am wrong, it is really VFM. I will go for it.

Also 55-250 IS is in that range. Dealer quoted me 12.5k. As not in a hurry, in the processes of comparing various lenses.

You'd get great bargains on used lenses at crawford market. People from Mumbai do check it out

Does Crawford market have camera shops? Or are you referring to shops in VT/Fort area? Any clue where can I buy Nission flash Di622 in that area?

A quick update: The Nissin Di622 with Nikon mount is finally available with Angel Photo, Fort for 6,000 w/o B&W. I had also called Pixetra Kochi, they can ship it to Mumbai for 7,700. I assume it's w/ B&W. I think I'm buying from Mumbai w/o B&W.

@Ban-6K! thats fantastic. The Di622 is a fantastic VFM option.

Pixetra sells dealer warranty and not the company warranty.

Another update (on the bag-from here)

Sleeves were needed to house the templates that give protection to the equipment from the sides and bottom.

As umbrella cloth was the most cost effective waterproof option available, the same was used to make the sleeves that hold the thermo col templates.

The bag is reversed and the side sleeves are left open on one side so as to remove the templates for occasions of using the bag to carry anything other than cameras and also to make the reversing of the bag(inside out) easier.

Now with the three sleeves stiched and the templates inserted.

Now the bag has been reversed and the cam and gear tried for fitting.

There is one more step remaining-ie to add restraints to prevent the camera from moving about-that will be coming soon!

Binoy,

I finally got it from Mumbai for 5750/-. He was selling me some Simpex rechargeable batteries but I'm quite sick of charging things. Bought a set of Duracell batteries (any clue how many flashes?) and tried the flash. I was very very amazed at the results! I haven't checked the qualitative aspect yet but as far as intensity of the flash is concerned, it's awesome. On full mode, I could light up my 13x17 living room to absolutely white! Thanks for the recommendation!
