Those so called "lens creep" were only reported in Nikon 18-105 and none with other brands. 18-200 is one of the best lenses out there.

The above does not sound like 'issue with 18-105 was some defect in mechanical motor ring' and hence the explanation for the same. Am not buying a preowned 18-105VR-i already own a band new one and am more than happy with its performance, the talk was about Ban getting the lens if i decided to upgrade. It would be helpful to all if you could post the link to the service advisory or the serial numbers-thanks.

Look buddy I just informed you guys on whatever I had experienced at the service center that day,If you people want to digest that fact or not is none of my problem nor I am a sales agent here to demotivate someone on buyin 18-105. Period.

Avoid quoting directly preceding posts-MODS

Adam dont know why you are making personal remarks for?

We appreciate your efforts to highlight the aspects of the said issue. But when doing that on a public forum like this atleast be specific and accurate to the facts.

Lens creep and 'defect in the motor ring' are two different issues and none of your earlier posts mention them differently, moreover it sounded that all 18-105's had lens creep(which is contrary to the fact as show in the link) and that the 18-200 had no creep(which again is against the info as posted in reputed review).

You could have been more specific in your first post and mentioned that you had visited a service center and from there the info was that there someone told you that there was some defect in the motor of the said lens, and that its not lens creep.

Also there is no need for personal comments, you can counter what any member says by a non personal approach.Hope you imbibe the spirit of the forum.

To move things along which version of the 70-300 are you having? How does it perform? Am also considering a telephoto zoom but undecided on the brand(Sigma or Nikon).

Visited JJ Mehta last week and he didn't have Nissin. He has Sunpack PZ42X for 7000. It's supposed to be in the same class as SB600 and Di622. Not sure about performance but it looked pretty crappy to me in terms of build quality. He is selling Sb600 for 12,000 with 3-months local warranty!

Just called Sunlight, Nissin's authorized distributor in Delhi. Pathetic fellow. Only help he did was telling me the name of Nissin dealer in Mumbai. Angel Photo at Fort. When asked for price, he outrightly refused, even he wouldn't tell me approx price or Delhi dealer's phone no!! I said I am coming down to Delhi, he said come to Delhi then I will tell you this information. What the heck! Called Angel Photo, nice guy but helpless. No stock of Di622 for Nikon at all. Can't guarantee if its coming in a month also. Has asked me to call him back in noon. Quoted price 6000. Let's see!

@Muthu-glad that you liked the DIY project-do note that its far from complete, today got hold of umbrella cloth(the most cost effective waterproof material i guess!) for covering the partitions and also a roll of velcro. Watch this thread for further updates and please do post your attempt also.

@Ban thanks for the update-the Sunpack plastics looks like recycled plastic while the Nissin is much more robust. 6K for the Di622 is an excellent price, but am surprised to know that the same is not available in Mumbai(of all places).

From the net i gather than near the VT station are quite a few shops that stock and sell Nissins(also that JJ are one of the most pricey places to buy from) do give a try.

70-300 are going for 4k these days(New) great vfm. But I would rather advice you to go in for a VR version of it. Ive always sided to Nikon because I had a Sigma lens which was kept in the drawer for about a month but when I took it out for a session discovered the auto focus motor went kaput.

Adam, can you give the details of any shop where 70-300 is available for 4k. I am intending to buy one, if it is so cheap as the local shops quoted above 8k.
