My thinking  that even though single lens is convenient, the safety risk involved in keeping an expensive single lens and the fact that third party lenses might not be perfect match (compared to the OE) to the cam body were in favour of keeping the kit lens.

Am also looking at selling my 18-105VR... might fetch 12K in the used market

If you are not in a hurry, do bring it to the forum meet, if I like the zoom range, the lens is mine!

Ban am having different thoughts as i go through the reviews of the telephoto zooms. Confused on how to upgrade.

Will certainly keep the lens till the meet, and see how the 70-300 turns out. If a 18-270 is in budget you can have the 18-105VR!

Same status here also. Canon 55-250 IS lens is also under consideration. Almost same range.

Mean time having some more experiments with the kit lens.

Tried zoom burst using lens.

Settings : ISO 100, Shutter speed 1s, Partial  Metering, F25

The same effect can be obtained more effectively using zoom burst filter or using photoshop.

Bhardwaj, this thread pertains to d-SLR's only, do have a look here.

There is a saying in photography circles-'The best camera for use is the one that you have with you now'!

@Feroz-excellent effort. One word of caution though, 'zoom bursting' while on auto exposure and auto focus settings may damage the AF motor-so be careful.

Here is the same effect done in PS

If you reach to some conclusion, do let me know. I too seem to be in the same state of mind. I know, there can be great results produced using specific lenses for specific occasions but as far as I am concerned, I am very lazy and sometimes I not even feel like carrying the camera, forget multiple lenses. Hence I need a lens that is very versatile and gives decent image quality and performance. My benchmark for quality and speed is the Nikon kit lens (18-55 non-VR. The new lens should perform better than this one in all the given circumstances. I understand it may not be fast enough on tele-end of zoom.). As long as I get this, I am okay with Nikkor, Tamron, Sigma or whatever!

Thanks for the caution. I was not aware of that. It was an experimental try after reading about it in a magazine.

If it is Nikon 18-105 please do check because these had flaw of lens moving if the camera was positioned upright or downwards.
