HI,

I have recently moved to Pune and I plan to saty in Pune for 1 year.

I dont intend to re-registered the vehicle with MH number, but wnat to pay the tax & ride the vehicle as I might go back within a year.

Could you please let me know if it is necessary to get NOC from the state from where the vehicle is registered? Is it necessary to caryy NOC even if I pay the tax? How long can i ride the vehicle without paying the tax? How long can I say with out re-registering?

Thanks

Raj

I think you can drive/use the car without paying any tax for 3 months.  I also think that Pune/Maharashtra does not accept 1-year tax for temp. relocation (like many states accept).  You will, therefore, have to pay life-time tax as applicable to old cars on depreciated value assessed by RTO (Pune), and seek pro-rata refund of the same while relocating back within a year.  Re-registration is not required for one year.

RTO rules vary a little from state to state.  Please ascertain finer details locally.

Thanks Pankaj.

I infact visited the RTO office, but no one gave a clear answer on how long can I ride the vehicle without paying the tax. The RTO office suggested me to pay the tax asap, but said number change is not req. if i saty for a year.I belive if I stay in the state for more than a year, I need to change the vehicle number.

But am still unclear if NOC & change of address is required for riding the vehicle in the state.

There is no restriction on visiting other states in pvt. vehicles while touring or for temp. period (generally 3 months, as I understand).  You will not have any issues - you can always explain that you have visited for some work - temporary in nature.

Beyond that (not exceeding 1 year) you will not have problems without re-registration if taxes are paid & papers in order.

Instead of routine enquiry, try some RTO Official & good/reliable agent.

Just visisted the RTO office & met the Asst RTO...he was really nice and explained in detail..

No registration req till one year, only tax to be paid. But if the vehicle is not registered & return after a year, tax refund will be difficult without de-registering the vehicle. Hence he suggested that if I plan for tax refund, then it will be easier if I get the NOC & register it here.

NOC not required, for paying tax / running the vehicle for less than a year. There is no temporary tax, only lifetime tax. If vehicle is old 7% tax on invoice - depreciation (they a chart for calculation the same). One needs to fill a  form (Form FT) & provide vehicle docs to assess & pay the TAX.

There is also a Kiosk at Pune RTO (was pleseantly surpised), it also provides the basic prelimany info.

Suggestion to other readers, if you visist Pune RTO, dont get confused by the chaos...try to meet any Asst. RTO, as most agent provide inconsistant info or not aware of rules.

Pankaj : Once again appreciate your responses, thanks a lot for you help!

I have few more questions .

I am going to stay in PUne for 3 Years and would prefer if can stay without changing my number.

1. NOC is mendatory for Paying Tax ?

2. Or NOC is mendatory while changing the number ?

3. how to get the NOC from Delhi RTO ?

4. Approx how much does it cost to get the NOC from Delhi RTO ?

5. Approx how much cost will be while paying the road tax in PUNE ( I guess approx 7% of NOC )

6.  Can we get the car registered in PUNE for just 3 years without dergistring it in Delhi . so when we come back no need to do this all .

Thanks in advance.

Sachin
