Hi Guys ,

I own a Versa DX2 BS3 Manufactured Dec 2005 / Registered Jan 2006 , it has clocked close to 39000 in odometer . and now my running is daily of 45-50 km.

and my fuel - hungry- elephant gives me only mileage of 7.25 kmpl . I am planning to get it convereted into CNG. the cost is comming out to be 35000 in mumbai including RTO expenses.

Please answer my following queries.

1. Will the CNG Conversion Damage my engine

2. Will the Resale value get affected

3. Will the routine maintainance cost will run up.

4. Any another suggestions and comments relevant to this subject

Thanks in advance for your replies

  1. Virtually not (may to some extent in loong run).
  2. Versa, as such, doesn't have very good resale.  CNG will get you buyers faster.
  3. Yes, to some extent [negligible as compared to savings due to lower running cost (30-35%) on CNG].
  4. Performance will not match with that of Petrol due to some power loss (will not be felt very apparently in normal driving conditions/style).

Mileage/kms on CNG will increase, say from 7.5 to 10. Running cost will be 30-35% as compared to petrol (discussed before), as CNG is fuel efficient & economical (both).

Your run/usage works out to approx. 1500 kms per month.  The petrol bill would amount to, say 9500/- p.m. (with present mileage of 7.5 kms).  Once on CNG, the fuel bill would reduce to approx. 3500/-.  CNG would save 70K p.a.  That's a huge amount - worth compromising on performance (discussed before) & bearing little higher maintenance cost.

Power loss on LPG is lesser than in CNG, and so is the maintenance cost (less). Mileage/kms will reduce on LPG but running cost will (still) be lesser than petrol by approx. 35-40%.
