Hi,

I had a swift DDIS which met with an accident and I'm going for a total loss as i have lost intrest in keeping the same car.

Please help me in buying a new car under 6 lakhs. Preferable diesel as my running would be more than 2000 Kms/month.

I test drove i20 diesel. Its a very good car in terms of features and handling but after riding swift DDIS I feel the engine is underpowered also its way too expensive.

you can have a look at the vista diesel and the punto diesel. They share the same engine as the swift/dzire diesel and are equally good on performance. In fact vista and punto are much more spacious than the swift/dzire

Hi Centaur,

Thanks for your suggestion. I personally dont like Vista and I dont prefer that. I saw Punto sat inside though I didnt test drive the car, I felt it has very less rear space but it has solid build. Could any of you please tell how Punto QDJ behaves on road, handling, braking, power(Because it is very heavy) and FE. Why I'm keen on knowing braking is Swift DDIS has very poor braking. If it had very good braking I would have saved my car from crashing.

in that case have a look at the ikon TDCi. Its a very good car with the same engine as the fiesta. It is good on handling an braking. ASS and maintenance from Ford have also considerably improved these days. So you will not face any issues with that either.  Apart from the ikon the only other options will be the Punto and the Ritz diesel. Ritz diesel has the same engine as the swift. Being from maruti you will have good ass and cheaper maintenance as well. Better take a test drive of these three cars and then decide.

@ centaur: Good suggestion bro, the ikon TDCi has good FE,apart from dated interiors, every thing goes for it.its a real VFM.(since the diesel has launced i see a lot many new icons on the road)

Hi Hemanth , I suggest you to go for Punto Emotion Pack if budget permits it. It has got solid build quality , superb diesel engine , perfect brakes, best ride quality. In fact it has got everything you wanted features wise. Yes you don't get performance of Swift DDSI & ASS . Rear seat space is adequate . But overall it is nice car. Also go for a car with all safety features .

Hi Centaur, thanks for the suggestion. Even I was thinking of Ikon TDCI, but was not sure about the ASS and maintenance. I TD the IKON TDCI today and found that the break and handling to be very nice. I dont want to go back to Maruthi as I already had Swift and I feel Maruthi give less importance to safety. Though it has very good ASS I would not prefer maruthi's again(My personal Opinion). Punto is very good car but it is out of budget as of now. Now I'm thinking of Palio multijet and Ikon. Could you please let me knw which one is better out of these two, as both of them are coming within my budget(Though Ikon is slightly out of my budget). I need to know which one has better handling, braking and back seat space. Also one strange thing which I noticed when I sat in Palio is the placing of Clutch, brake and accelator levers, I peersonally felt it is placed bit towards left side.

Hi Abhishek, I would have loved to go for punto Emotion pack or i20 considering the features and safety these cars offer, since I have budget constraint so I have to consider Ford Ikon TDI or Palio Multijet. I have seen from reviews that palio has very good safety.

go ahead with the Ikon. The ASS from FOrd has improved a lot from what it was some years ago. Maintenance is also cheaper as they have reduced the prices of the spares by 50% which is a good amount. As you also realised, the handling and braking of the ikon is very good. Leave the palio all together as it is pretty old and has not been able to pick up well in Indian markets. Just an off track suggestion. Be carefull when you drive. Life is precious and always remember that you  have someone waiting at home for you. So please drive safe and take all the safety measures like seat belts, while driving. All the best
