for having 5 people in the car rule out the swift. Its not that comfortable for 5 people. Accent or the baleno will be a better choice. The baleno is good on performance but low on FE. You could consider the new vista or the i10 if you do not need the extra boot space of these sedans but in the cars you have mentioned the accent will be a better buy

Go for Punto. Spares are cheap and service intervals are long. It is a very maintenance free car indeed. Also, there is no match for its ride and handling. Has far superiors high speed manners. It is a great car.

We are confusing a little. Cementwala is looking for a used car.  The confusion probably arose because the query (since relocated here in new thread) was earlier posted in another thread that pertained discussion on buying a new car

As far as space/comfort is concerned (query), Baleno will be better.  Accent too is comfortable, and will be a better choice (all in all).

Thanks so much for all your replies.

So it seems a Used Accent is the best choice?

will a 3 year old accent be oK (unlike a indica or indigo that goes loose?)

and cost of repairs - spare parts is less?

thanks.

Normally 3 years period is nothing (any car).

Maintenance/repairs of Accent will be a little higher (nothing to worry) than Baleno (Maruti factor).

I guess the spares for Baleno are not that cheap as Maruti has for its other cars but even then the maintenance for Baleno is pretty decent. I feel the maintenance for baleno and accent will be more or less the same.

The Accent will cost you less on maintenance than the Baleno.  A lot of Baleno parts are still SGP (Suzuki Genuine Parts) and not MGP - they are imported and tend to cost quite a lot.

Between the two I'd recommend a Baleno, though - the Accent is a big sluggish in the lower gears and it really comes into its own on the highway where its in-gear acceleration is superb.  The Baleno on the other hand drives beautifully within the city with loads of low-end torque and you can easily drive along at 30-35kmph on 5th gear, and we all know that it is more than capable on the highway.

Other than some very expensive parts the only other issues with the Baleno are (1) very tinny build - VERY; (2) the most powerful and fun-to-drive version is the first lot (therefore the oldest) before they made it comply with emission norms and had to detune it from 98bhp to 91 or 93; (3) is considered a 'performance' vehicle or sorts, therefore DO NOT buy it if the car has a very young owner/driver - it may have been thrashed around.

Keep those wheels turning!
