I own a TATA Indica DLS V2 - Diesel (Sep 2006 - BSIII) model. I have done 34100 KM till date. Suddenly after filling fuel in BPCL COCO Pump opposite to RTO office, Pune (Sangam Bridge) 2 weeks ago, I am able feel shuddering while holding the accelerator at a constant speed. I noticed this for 8 days and took my car to TASC for checking. The TASC engineer test drove my car and told that the fuel used in my car is adulterated because of which the Fuel Injection system has to be recaliberated and the nozzle that goes to the engine should be cleaned. When I enquired the rate for doing this he quoted a whopping 13000 for this. Also, he took a cloth and dipped it in the fuel from my tank and made me smell. To my surprise it was smelling like kerosene and I was shocked.

I really doubt if one filling of adulterated fuel (I assume so) would make me to spend 13k on recaliberation of Fuel injection system. I don't have any problem with acceleration when I increase the speed. This shuddering/jerking happens only at constant speed. If anyone in this forum has come across this issue in your car, please help me out.

Thanks,

Sairam.

have you finished using all the fuel in the tank? I would recommend that you run it till near empty, and then do a refill using a known good pump, and try adding some system D (recommended dosage is 1 ml per litre), and see if the issue still exists.

I have half tank fuel now. Even I thought of doing what you suggested. I will check it out this weekend and let you know. Do you think its better to just suck out the fuel or drive it till empty ?

suck out would be a better option. why subject the car to even more abuse.

I'm not sure a recalibration is needed. Do you have a lucas TVS service center in your city? they're the folks who make the indica fuel injectors, and would be the experts to check (not TASC) . they might be better equipped to diagnose and service your FIP !

The charges for recalibration sounds quite high.  FIP should always be sent to Lucas – even dealers do that (are supposed to) – even if it involves sending it to another city/centre.

I too feel that recalibration may NOT be required.  As suggested by Greenhorn, empty the tank & refill it.  Adding System D will help.  It cleans carbon deposits of injector & maintains proper spray pattern.

Where can i buy System D, is this from a standard company or every local guy produces it. If there is any good company then please let me know the name and cost of it.

I have a Indica DLX BSII, 2005 model which has clocked 41000 KM. I am getting a milage of 12-13 in Bangalore City with 40-50% AC ON. Is there a way to increase the mileage ???

I faced the same issue with Indica DLG but the car was under extended warranty (Little over 2 years) thats why I left the car in the service centre and they repaired the Pump under warranty.

And you are right, the car was giving jerks on constant slow speed only. No jerk at all on high speed.

I changed all 4 tyres of my car yesterday. I drained diesel completely and added System-D before fuelling. I started to fill up Hi-Speed diesel now a days. After filling System-D with Hi-Speed diesel, I am able to see that my car is very smooth now and I don't feel any jerks or shudder (may be psychological) but I asked my friend to drive and got it confirmed. Thanks to you guys. I saved 13K by not going to TASC for recaliberation.

glad to be of help Sairam. I'd recommend that you continue to use system D regularly ( ordinary diesel should be enough, just tank up from a pump which you know gives good fuel). I've had a positive experience using system D, as have many others, and now, you as well
