Hi All,

I'm Rahul, software professional planning to buy a small car. My initial plans were like to go for a used maruti Zen car ( preferrably around 1-1.5 lakhs ). One of my friends is planning to sell his car, Maruti Zen Estilo ( feb 2008 ) Lxi model. I just wanna know whether is it worth buying zen estilo, quoted price is around 2.5 lakhs. What is the reasonable price for which I can negotiate. Plz suggest me

Yes, the price quoted (Rs.2.5 lac) is indeed quite good. Bargain to the extent possible.  Hope the car is well maintained & has undergone normal use.

It's always better to buy an used car from people known to us (friends/relatives), as the antecedents of the car isn't unknown to us.

Thank you so much

The car is in excellent condition, also he has invested more on the extra accessories like alloy wheels, leather covers, etc. But I heard that zen estilo is a flop vehicle, performance is poor. Is that true? I'm very much confused whether to opt for old zen or zen estilo. This is gonna be my first car, so I've fair idea about it.

Performance is good.  It has not been able to establish its market, as expected, primarily because it’s very closely (almost at par) priced to WagonR, which is established for years & is a little sturdier & spacious/comfortable (relatively).  Had it been priced between Alto & WagonR, it would have picked-up well. Estilo has better interiors & electronic features than WagonR, and, in my personal opinion/taste, also scores ahead on looks.  It returns better mileage too – by 1-1.5 km as compared to WagonR. There's nothing wrong with Estilo. It has the same engine of WagonR & earlier Zen.

Given the alloys & leather covers fitted, and the excellent condition it is in, the price quoted is really very good.

To add... buying such a car will give you a feeling of owning almost a new car.  Maintenance would obviously be lesser than that it would be in case of 2nd Zen (1.5 lac).  You would also be able to own/use this car for much longer period than you would otherwise do in case of Zen.

There's nothing wrong with Estilo. It has the same engine of WagonR & earlier Zen.

The earlier Zen was 999 cc and the new Estilo is 1061 cc (same as Wagon R but slightly better tuned)

The price vis-a-vis the features u get in the Estilo is very good - go for it.

However, 1 thing, that the driving pleasure of the Old Zen is absent in the Estilo - coz new Estilo is a bit tall and tend to have a Body Roll over on corners.

Thanks for elaborating. The engine is otherwise/basically the same.

The body roll is also there in WagonR.  It's not an issue - just on account of tall design, as pointed out by you.

Thank You very much for the above information Smile..

Let me try to negotiate the price as much as possible. 2.2 - 2.3 lakh is gonna be a best offer I feel.
