It's not the dashboard design but that of the AC vents/grills.  Like-wise it's not manufacturing but designing defect.  But, as I said before, I, while observing this, couldn't use the AC & feel/see it practically.

...dickey door cant open with key....

A small/thin metal rod (?) must be missing.

To sum up, there are some really "interesting" things missing in the VISTA!! Maybe TATAs could rectify them in the next decade.

The AC vents/grills are designed differently – the gaps in grills do not remain constant when the direction is changed (unlike in earlier Indicas).  Besides, the vents are placed a little higher on the dashboard on the upper curve.  The grills, therefore, when opened to the fullest direct over the shoulders aiming upwards.  Though this should not affect the ultimate cooling (whatever), the rear seat occupants may initially feel the AC is less effective.  If the position of grills is adjusted – to direct lower (at chest level or even lower) – the gaps/outlets between the grills reduce restricting the outflow.

Here are a few photos of AC Vents of earlier version of Indica (Turbo)...

And here are a few of Vista...

I hope the above photos speak for what I have explained before.

Adding to Pankaj's views, it takes around 15-20mins for the rear seat passengers to get full A/C effect. I feel this is due to less air throw from the vents. After 20mins or so, the A/C effect is good for the entire cabin.

Yesterday, I noticed that the flat surface above the center A/C vent (in front of instrument cluster) and the curved surface around the center console was very cold. Will there be any lack of insulation between the blower and the vent/grills?

Do you own a vista , Arun ? if yes , please share your experiences with the car .
