I'm a little confused.  I understand the present day Indicas do not have fanbelt (old technology).  It has electronic fan connected to temperature sensor (cuts off & on automatically).  Noise is not a problem like it was in the earlier models.  The noise, if any, could be due to bearings or imbalance of fan (haven't faced that yet in my car).

It occurred to me so (later).

The sound from the alternator belt comes when it gets loose or has turned completely dry.  The issue has been resolved to a great extent (new models) - in the sense that the frequency for want of tightening or lubricating the belt has reduced.  I have faced this problem a few times but haven't found this chronic - or may be my mechanic is good Smile

i was told by my service advisor that they can get it fixed by tightening the belt, and the noise wouldnt show up for longer, but I'd run the risk of breaking it, and the noise was better than a snapped belt. So i put up with it. Or was he lying ?

I don't think it will really break but yes, it shouldn't be over-tightened. There is an equipment - belt tensioner (?) - through which it should be checked (after tightening it manually).  Dealers/ Workshops should have that equipment.

Is this issue occures with all type of diesel engines? I mean TDI, CRDI and DICOR

It takes less time to do things right than to explain why you did it wrong.

Yes - but, as stated before, it isn't to the extent it was earlier.

thats what i was told when i bought mine too. and mine was bought not long after the 2007 redesign. the car did sound better initially, now its no different from any other 24,000k run indica. in fact , got a friend who has a 2001 jan indica run just 8000k (was garaged mostly)

and its more silent than mine

I wish you could drive my car once (36K - 3 years) Smile

Ranjit, one thing is for sure - Turbo engine is much better than non-turbo, and that, the maintenance of the two is more or less at par.

Test-drive both the cars.
