Not when the vehicles are of the same class - even if there is a difference in kerb weight etc the power differential will be marginal, hardly what you might call a decision-maker or breaker.

kerb weight, aerodynamics, drive train ratios, peak RPMs are quite important factors for deciding the performance. it is not only dependent on the engine capacity. If engine capacity was the only point to be considered you could never compare many of the cars with their counterparts. If these were not important points then a i10 would be same as the ritz and the indica.

Why break rules when following them is much easier!!!

As Uneet mentioned, Fabia in the new batch may come with TSI engine. I want to understand, which one is more advanced petrol engine MPI or TSI. If someone can explain the functionality of both, that would be great Smile

Hi All,

We talked a lot about high cost of spares of fabia, and ASS. Below is the link which says over a period in near future, the manufactutring of the vehicle will be more localized, So hope for the better After Sales Service Smile

Dear All,

May be I should start a new thread on this, "What is the true performance of a car"

however I want to share my views reagrding the performance of a car.

In my belief, a cars performance should be judged not by its speed but by its braking.

What good is the speed if you cannot handle it.

Raw power is just like cheap booze, it will give you a heady feeling one instant and another instant you will find yourself splattered on the road.

0-60 in 4 or 5 seconds has no meaning at all, unless you want to drag race.

A car should be able to accelerate decently but brake perfectly. For this not only the brake should be of top quality but also be long lasting. The engines can continue to perform for years on and on but the breaks on most of the Indian cars detoriate much faster. My Palio 1.6 is (almost was) a hot hatch but its breaks have fade away much quicker.

Secondly, suspension is also very important for maintaining balance of the vehicle at high speed, during high speed breaking and cornering. Again I would like to ask, are we getting good quality suspension in our cars. Compare the cars not only by the engine power but also include the suspension performance. Again I would like to point out that suspension on Fiat cars tend to detoriate much fatser. For the suspension you cannot have parameters, but you only have to go by the word of other people who have used the cars or the reputation of the manufacturer.

Although Fiat is bringing in world class cars but the components they have used so far in Palios have been third grade.

We call that aspect of the car as handling and not performance.

I would totally second your view that performance without handling is of no use.

Aah! thanks Ami for correcting me.

What I wanted to bring to your attention is that if the good quality components do not go into making a car, its handling can detoriate very fast and subsequently you will not be able to use the available power.

Same is happening to me with my Fiat Palio 1.6.

I think handling also depends on the kerb weight of the car. The more the weight better the handling.

Reg. Suspension, I totally agree suspension is a very important crieteria as it helps you decide the comfort in a car.

This is what i really like in fabia, even though it has less ground cleearance, but may car has never been scrapped with a load of 4 adults and a kid courtesy gr8 suspension. Surely it depends on the kind of roads u r travelling but i think in India we don't get good roads every where!

This Car is Amazing in middle level luxurious car. If I have a option to go with skoda fabia 1.2 ambiente MPI or Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 Petrol Emotion Pack than definently i'll go with Fabia...

I have a same dilemma before choosing the car. Fabia will be my first choice, i20 is a second and then I considered Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 petrol emotion pack. I will agree with you that Fabia’s ride and handing quality is slightly better than i20 but rare room of both the cars is almost equal. I wish you all the best for your new Fabia.

But I want to Go With My New i20........;-)

GP has better ride & handling compare to Fabia & i20. Fabia has better interiors & rear space compare to GP & i20. GP has better performance compare to Fabia & i20. GP Emotion Pack is real VFM out of these three cars. i20 has better ASS .
