Dear All,
May be I should start a new thread on this, "What is the true performance of a car"
however I want to share my views reagrding the performance of a car.
In my belief, a cars performance should be judged not by its speed but by its braking.
What good is the speed if you cannot handle it.
Raw power is just like cheap booze, it will give you a heady feeling one instant and another instant you will find yourself splattered on the road.
0-60 in 4 or 5 seconds has no meaning at all, unless you want to drag race.
A car should be able to accelerate decently but brake perfectly. For this not only the brake should be of top quality but also be long lasting. The engines can continue to perform for years on and on but the breaks on most of the Indian cars detoriate much faster. My Palio 1.6 is (almost was) a hot hatch but its breaks have fade away much quicker.
Secondly, suspension is also very important for maintaining balance of the vehicle at high speed, during high speed breaking and cornering. Again I would like to ask, are we getting good quality suspension in our cars. Compare the cars not only by the engine power but also include the suspension performance. Again I would like to point out that suspension on Fiat cars tend to detoriate much fatser. For the suspension you cannot have parameters, but you only have to go by the word of other people who have used the cars or the reputation of the manufacturer.
Although Fiat is bringing in world class cars but the components they have used so far in Palios have been third grade.
