i20 is sluggish. It is totally underpowered.

GP is powered just right according to TD reports.

Dear Nachiketa,

Fiat after sales service is horrible.

I20 should give you a better overall experience. Hyundai has always been committed to India, in bringing the whatever best they have.

Fiat took 4 years to launch punto since its launch in Europe, where it is already outdated.

I sincerely do not know about the ASS of Skoda. But with Fiat, I had first hand experience. I will never want you to commit the same mistake as I ahve done.

After reading the turmoils that owmers of Skoda have faced @ some of the other sites and carwale as well, I can safely say that Fiat with the support of Tata is a far far better option than the Skoda.

Skoda has an even worser reputation and make no mistakes because Fiat is supported by Tatas as well which while not really is in the same league as Maruti / Hyundai, is still manageable.

Even otherwise, Skoda 1.2 will be underpowered according to me but Grande Punto is not. Talking of the build quality, may be Skoda has an edge, but, Fiat isn't too bad and has a good build quality as well. So, even the car will be better !!

Regards,

K Prasad

totally support Prasad on that. Fiat has improved a lot over the years and with the JV with TATAs they are doing even better. Skoda is high on maintenance as well as compared to FIAT

Sumit, Prasad & Centaur, thank you all for the input.

I want an honest opinion from Prasad and Centautr. If you do not have to think about the maintainancea and ASS, would you still prefer FIAT GP.

And as i am buying my first car, so do not have much idea about the car maintainence cost, can you please explain for me what kind of expenses may occur at what interval. Skoda fabia service interval is at every 15000 KMs.

Look at this discussion.

Its a strange world.  A Fabia or an i20 with a 1.2 engine is underpowered while a Fiat with a similar engine is 'adequately powered'.

Keep those wheels turning!

yes it is strange because you cannot decide the power of a vehicle just on the engine capacity. You also need to consider the aerodynamics of the car, the kerb weight of the car etc. Not necessary a Fabia with a 1.2L engine has the same weight and aerodynamics as the i20 or Punto with a 1.2L engine

An interesting comparison between i20, fabia and swift and Punto (All petrols)

0-60
i20==5.2 ; fabia = 6.1  ; swift = 5.8, Punto = 6.28

0-100
i20 = 12.9 ; fabia = 16.2 ; swift = 13.8, Punto = 16.58

30-80
i20 = 11.3 ; fabia = 11.1 ; swift = 12.6, Punto = 14.11

40-100
i20 = 19.5 ; fabia = 20.3 ; swift = 23.3, Punto = 19.53

80-120
i20 = 22.3 ; fabia = 20.9 ; swift = 31.5, Punto not known yet

I don't think that i20 is underpowered -- It has decent pick and can easily touch speed of 140 KM on high way with full load ( 4 people with A/c on). i20 may not be choice of speed loving person, but this is adequate for normal city and highway drive. This actually helps i20 to get better mileage than Punto. Punto with 1.4 litre engine is expected to have mileage of 9-10 , where as i20 returns mileage of 12 under city driving condition.
