Polo will be launched in next Auto-Expo with starting price of 4.5 lacs which will make it the least expensive car of VW. It will be powered with 1.2 lit TSI Petrol engine & 1.6 lit TDI Diesel engine.

With this pricing , market for small car will definitely going to see lot more actions in near future. VW is really serious about India & they are expanding their dealer network very fast . Recent ad in TOI shows how they are serious about it .

Lets wait . Also to see how Skoda Fabia will be repositioned after Polo launch .

In the recent past whenever any hatchback was launched, it helped in boosting the sale of I-20. Might be same results this time.

According to your point of view, GENERAL MOTORS should be the best company in the world, but now its suffering massive losses.

The only reason Volkswagen could buy them is beacuse they are so cheap and they are the only company to sell in large volumes to rake in all the profit. So the very fact that yyou pointed out clearly CONTRADICTS your arguement Mr Binoy.

When are car company sells the cheapest and most reasonalbe cars and rakes in the most volumes, it only goes to show that they can achieve the best cost cutting methods and its clearly says that it has no reason to be the BEST and thus, again, I point out that we should never have to pay any PREMIUM for a VW.

This is the reality, VW makes cheap, reliable and sturdy cars that are relatively efficient and there is no reason for paying any premuims for them in such a cost competeitve market like India.

Sorry for the late reply.

Consider Suzuki,Hyundai,Tata these are three companies selling cars in the proposed segment that VW is going to launch the Polo in. Do tell which among the four is the 'premium' brand?

You seem to have a foregone conclusion of where VW stands in todays terms, the game has changed and no longer are VW cheap. In all markets they are considered premium and sold at a premium. Buying companies may not make much of a change in market perception but what one buys does make a big impact. Bugatti/Lambo and Audi have grown after VW ownership and that has given the premium feel to VW cars.

To make my point a bit more objective -here is the link to the comparison between the i10/Swift and Polo that is currently being sold in UK.I have tried to compare the three cars with the most similar engine specs and in 5 door trim-do try other combinations also.

Absolutely right Binoy. Still we Indians have not seen real quality products in hatchbacks. I am talking about not just engine & ASS but also about build quality , ride & handling , latest technology & so on. I have seen such difference between Fabia & others. Maruti , Hyundai & Tata are far behind in that terms.

The polo will be available in both petrol and diesel engines-infact the same engines from the Fabia will be used.

Pricing would be in the 5 to 7 lac sector on road-for further details please visit the previous pages on this thread.

Binoy , don't you think Polo with same engine of Fabia will be a big mistake ? Afterall VW wants to get major share in small car market . Both petrol & diesel of Fabia are the weakest link . One is 3 cylinder & other  PD which is extemely noisy. Indians have rejected both these. They must introduce new engines .
