What would be correct method for measuring milage.

1.

Top up fuel tank. Note speedometer reading in Kms. (A)

 Run the car for around say 500 Kms. No need to run all 500 kms in one stretch. Use as per you requirements. It may be in 15 to 20 days.

When you complete around 500 Kms, Top up fuel tank again. Note the speedometer reading in Kms. (B). Also note how much fuel in ltrs required to full the tank.(C)

Milage = C/B-A Kms/Ltr.

2.

The second way which dealer's service engineer told when I complained about less milage was,

After top up of fuel tank, run the car for around 30 Kms in one stretch and top up the tank again. Calculate milage same way as in method 1.

I generally use method 1 which I think will give me exact milage.

Tank full to tank full by auto cut. No filling by shaking the vehicle. Check the kilometers driven. Divide KM run by fuel filled.
