Hello everyone,

This is my first post ever on this forum.I need your help in choosing a car.My budget is like around 11lakhs. I am looking for a performance drive driver's car.At the same time even fuel efficiency is imp.I am looking for Petrol Car.

Features like Alloy wheels,Automatic Climate Control,ABS,Airbags are a must for me. I have been able to shortlist following cars so far:

1)Cedia Sports 2009

2)chevy Optra 1.6 LT

3)Toyota corolla Altis 1.8G

4)Honda City 1.6 AT

Also I do not want a car tha puts a hole in my pocket. After paying for the high EMI for such a costly car I would hardly be left with any kind of room for its maintainence.so cost of maintainence should be as least as possible.

Please help me with your suggestions. You may also tell any other cars you can think of would fit into my requirements.

Thanks

I think Honda City 1.6 AT is agud option. Becoz as u mentioned that low cost of maintainence is important to u. One of my friend bought this awesome car a couple of months ago & he is very much pleased with the choice that he has made.Tongue out

After the first service car's avg is almost touching 16.Cool

Thanks for your advice Mukul..

wow 16 is a great mileage...but when I read the reviews of this car and also after looking at it,I some how feel that this car is not worth the price they are charging.I mean Automatic Transmission is a good feature but interior quality is too low.Neither they are providing Automatic Climate Control(Though not a very imp feature) but atleat alloy wheels should be provided with the car.

Also by any chance do you happen to know how the car performs in high speed driving on highways??Is acceleration good enough when we try to overtake vehicles with a sudden thrust??

If you're looking for a 'performance car' you need to lose the Optra 1.6 from the list.  The best of the rest (in terms of performance/driving pleasure) is definitely the Cedia though its sales have been disappointing and therefore resale will take a big hit as a "failed model".

The Hondas are too wafty to be called performance cars, regardless of the prowess of their engines - they cannot hold a decent speed for too long.  The Altis is better in that respect regardless of what people might say back home - Corollas are regularly used on the highways here for long, fast runs while none of the Hondas are favoured for the same.

Therefore your best bet is the Cedia, followed by the Corolla.  Why dont you consider the Fiesta 1.6 too?  Its a beautifully handling car with a good engine (except that it needs to be kept over 3,000 rpm) with pretty decent interiors.  The price will also be much lower, leaving you with sufficient funds to keep burning the roads!

Thanks for your reply steeroid...yeah even I am kind of inclined towards Cedia coz of its great performance and 2.0 litre engine. Also in its proce its a good deal with great leather interiors, touch screen DVD player, sports kit on sides, front and rear. Also i have heard that cedia is not that costly to maintain as far as its reviews show up on Team Bhp and various other sites.

But i see people saying and mentioning about the bad rear seat.People say its rear seat is not so comfortable because of no thigh support.I have test driven the car and i sat on the rear seat as well.It was ok to sit for a short while but may be would not be good for long journeys when my family would be sitting on the back.

As you rightly said about Honda, their cars are good for city run but yeah even i feel that Honda cars are not so good on highways when it comes to high speed driving and handling. So yes I guess Honda city goes out of the consideration.

Ahh agreed Ford Fiesta is a nice performance car but i some how dont like its looks. In that proce range I would rather go for SX4 ZXI coz i like its manly looks(Its 16"" Alloys are just huge and great). But I currently own a Swift ZXI so sitting in SX4 makes me feel like sitting in a Swift with just a longer boot.If Swift had not been first Car,I would have definately gone for SX4.

Anyways as you say Optra is not a performance car.So we are left with Corrolla and Cedia.Do you happen to have experience with any of these cars?about their performance?

I'm not so sure about the SX4 in the equation, but we'll let it be for the time being.

Between the Cedia and the Corolla, the Corolla has a terrific engine but the Cedia takes the curves better.  You will definitely enjoy driving the Cedia more as it is 'chuckable', the Corolla isnt quite so chuckable.

I dont know about the Cedia's backseat, but the Corolla has an excellent rear seat with near perfect seating.

The Cedia you get at the same price point as a Corolla will also have many more options than the basic, bland 'T' offering.

I think you should go for the Cedia, but if you're going to be selling the car within a couple of years or so the Corolla is a better buy.

Well havnt thought about when I would be selling it .As of now confused about buying itself But yes ofcourse Resale value i guess is an important concern.

Yes I test driven Corolla Altis.Resar Seat was just too amazingly comfortably.Only thing I was concerned about Corolla was its too much beige interiors.Even the flooring is beige.I donno how difficult/easy it would be to maintain that.If I take it on a 2day trip during rainss with my frieds. God knows what's gonna happen to its interiors.

I have a feeling that beige interior cars are meant for people who have drivers n all to maintain and keep their cars neat n clean.correct me if I am wrong.Embarassed

Not really.  It takes 10-15 minutes to clean the car (inside-out) if cleaned/maintained daily.
