Binoy its simple.

A headlight has three options- Parkiung, low beam and full beam. I won't suggest anyone to use full beam Xenon light until and unless its company fitted or original company part. As Xenon is that clear in highway driving. I have experienced it and hence I said so.

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

Is it just me or does everyone find it really annoying that drivers coming from the opposite direction do not care to change to low beam when they approach you. I mean it makes it real hard to see the road ahead especially if the street-lights are off. It has happened quite a few times with me that the light is so blinding that you almost fail to see the people crossing the road ahead of you.

Add to that all the speciality lighting (especially those near-ultraviolet headlights) that people use - never mind the flickering decorative lights here and there...but some drive with all the (flood)lights on - you can make them out from a long distance and before you know it they are close and you can't see a thing ahead except for the lights.

-Xenon-HID bulbs only come in one wattage-35W-so there is NO Hi-beam for xenon-its the temp that changes the range and the color.

-so in xenon we can go for a lower temp and get more spread(as in a hi-beam) or a higher temp for more blue color and reduced range.

-so if for example a 8000K bulb is used in the highbeam refector and a 4800K is used in the low beam reflector the range will be more or less same.

-so in case of Xenon/HID-there is nothing called as HI-Beam/Low Beam.

binoy, hid has Hi/low-Beam option which is also called bi-xenon.  So if you buy a bi-xenon lights you will have option to use high beam too.

-thanks Ameen for the chip in!

-in cars that run twin reflectors for the low beam and high beam-like the fiesta-different temp bulbs can be used in each of the refectors-and a sense of 'high beam' 'low beam' can be made out by choosing the temps(K-also to an extend determine range of light) correctly.

Very unfortunate that none of those who replied to Sun Nar's query has ever tried to do some research in the net. As far I have understood  Xenon (HID) bulbs do need special harnesses. The kit consists of 2 ballasts, wiring harness and 2 bulbs. There ae three types of these bulbs. Blue, white and yellowish white. The blue - I guess is - illegal - because it causes undue glare to the on coming vehicles. The white is softer but is having better illuminating properties. Yellowish white will be a better choice in my  opinion. The whole kits between 7000 to 9000 INR. You may verify these by visiting the websites of Philips or Halonix. Power consumption is 35 watts onlt !!. It produces less heat, therefore longer life for the reflectors.

even more expensive in india! a conversion kit for a single pair of bulbs costs twice that much in india

My opinion is that HID's should not be used without projectors or properly designed reflectors. using them in place of halogens is a nuisance.

also , HID's over 4300K are useless in the wet/rains, especially the bluer ones
