Your run/usage is substantially high.  Running cost on CNG would be very economical/beneficial.  It will, however, affect the performance - the power loss will be felt more with full load or while AC is on.  Maintenance too will be higher but will be compensated well by low running cost.

Approval for CNG kit/retrofitment is car/model specific. Check for the ones approved for Alto. Go for original Italian kit - may cost around 35-40K.

Hope someone who has got the retrofitment done, posts some info/experience & finer details.

Hi Nilesh..my elder brother is using an alto fitted with cng and he is getting an economy of around 24km/kg on ac...I am using maruti swift fitted with cng and i am getting 20km/kg.So i think its a pretty good option to get cng kit fitted in your car but in case of alto you will feel the loss of power very much. But now days you get advancer and lamda control with cng kit which minimise the power loss to sum extent.....the cost of the kit was round bout rs 35k with r.c endorsement.

Thanks Prasad and Amit for prompt reply.

Amit : I want to know that from how many days your brother is using Alto on CNG? More than 1 yr? Actually I want to check any major maintenance problem after 1 or 2 yr?

Thanks once again!

Hi Nilesh,my brother is using his cng fitted alto for more than a year now and apart from regular service (after every 10,000kms) and air filter change(after every 5,000kms) there is no major maintenance needed.

you will enjoy driving in this summer season with your a.c on for the whole time b'coz you know that you are driving on cng and not on petrol..........i think you shud go for it.

True but, as stated before, power loss while AC is ON will be felt more (& so will be the case at full load).  Anyway, your run/usage does merit CNG retrofitment.  You will soon get used to the power-loss / driving style required.

Hi Pankaj, its very true that loss of power after fitting cng will be very much felt and once you get used to with driving with cng it won't matter much.

Thanks Pankaj and Amit for valuable suggestion.

I had booked my Alto. I'm expecting delivery in next 1-2 week.

Now I'm planning to fit kit after 2nd servicing so that engine will get stable. I think this is a good decision.
What you suggest?

Nilesh congrats on your buy, will suggest you to go for retro fittment atlest after the third free service i.e after they(MASS) change the engine oil in your car.

And, please take the test drive of a already retrofitted alto before hand so that you would know what are you compromising on(Power loss is Majorly Noticeable in case of Open Loop)

Just to share a thought-process...

CNG (or LPG) retrofitments void the warranty.  Some, therefore, go for retrofitments after the warranty period expires.  Many go for it after 6 months or so - the logic is (which I fully endorse) - manufacturing defect, if any, would surface by then.  In my opinion you should go for retrofitment after 6 months, therefore.

I understand CNG (& LPG) Kits/retrofitments do come with some warranty.

Edit: Forgot.... Congratulations Nilesh.  Drive safely & steadily.  And do keep writing/participarting & sharing your experiences. Thanks.
