Yes, it's advisable to check for the manufacturing date (month/year) and against scratches, denting/painting etc.  Also take a test-drive.

also match the details with the RC book entries as well. If possible take someone along who knows about cars to a greater extent so that he can check thing under the hood. Congrats and all the best. DO post in your reviews and dealer experience

Have a look at this link provided to me by ankit ... this has the most comprehensive & exaustive list of checks you should perform.

The article is amazing. Thanks to u all.

Actually i have decided to get the car by 8pm tomorow as i will b late leaving office. But now i have decided to postpone the delivery date to saturday morning.

Another issue , I reside in chennai as part of my job ( basically i am form kerala) , but the dealer had asked me an extra 1000/- ( 200/- some fee and 800/-  bribe to police) towards registration  as i dont have a permanent residence proof in chennai. Actually i have rented an appartment in chennai and i told him that i can submit the rental agreement. If that is not okay, i said i can produce the HR letter from my company. But he said both are not valid. Have you heard of anything like that?.

Definitely i will write a dealer review shortly.

I donno much about these. But I've heard that only goverment issued documents hold validity.

I was also told that LIC policy would suffice. (long back when I was taking my bike)

Yes, generally our address mentioned in PAN, Voter ID, Driving License, BSNL LL Bill, Electricity Bill, Ration Card etc. are acceptable straightway.

Pankaj,

Isn't it mandatory that you have to have a local address mentioned in them?

What I mean is that if these documents (listed before) contain the local address, there's no problem at all.  In case of Debance, the documents must be containing address of Kerala - and therefore not useful for registration at Chennai.
