Hi
I Have been following this great forum for gr8 gud time, however never had oppurtunity to post a query, as genrally I would get info I was looking for.
So gud wealth of knowledge base available and kudos to them team.

I have a Ford Ikon Flair 1.3 October 2004 model, purchased it second hand on 5th Jan 09.

Had a meter run of 58K at that time.

I drove for couple of months without problems, however I noticed bit of jerking after a car run of 20-25 kms or shorter distance thru trafic. Well during winters i never noticed this problem. So I took to Harpreet Ford (moti nagar) and they said ignition coil/ fuel pump/ engine mount/ spark plugs/ Engine decarbonise etc and made an estimate of 28 k inclusive of labour.

I got this serviced locally and I felt engine not getting power during ignition and RPM meter falling at zero. I asked the mechanic, he said fuel pump/ spark plug or ignition coil problem, however it was late and asked me to drive for week or so.
After that I got the car washed at petrol pump.

Last month my car broke down on road, I called the on road crossroad support, and he said coolant was not there and its all water in radiator. So he filled 2 Lts of coolant in it.

After driving the car for 10 kms back home, it again broke down. It was 2 in the afternoon. Another mechanic came after 1/2 hrs waiting, when I gave the ignition the car started on its own. However he said fan is not working properly and asked me to get it repaired. I drove home and 2 days later a trusted mechanic from Maruti referred by my cousin came at my home around 7 in the evening. He pushed some wire/plug around fan and said it wont trouble anymore.
I asked hime of jerking he said some wire around spark plug will need replacement (700-800 Rs).
I asked him of ignition coil he said NO. I asked fuel pump , he said NO. Engine decarbonise , he said No. Just asked me to keep a look at coolant max mark regularly.

I drive early 15 Kms in morning on Noida link road to office to avoid traffic so there had been no problems for last 3 weeks.

Yesterday I was stuck in Traffic and I had AC on earlier, and this engine jerking thing started again. However I stopped my car for some time and I came home giving extra acceleration at times I felt jerking his happening.

Just need an advise if any member who had this experience with IKON FLAIR and solution. My mechanic has been busy and asked me to bring the car to Karol bagh on weekdays which I cant. tough becoz of office.
He said he ll get the part from Rajesh Motor @ ramjas road Karolbagh, common name as naala.

Sorry for this rather long story above.

Regards
Dips

Looks like its a Problem with the Alternator. Needs a replacement - costs 7000/- I had the same problem which was resolved by replacing it.

I had the same problem as stated above .I went to Road side because there was no Service centre around . He said the Engine gaskets has gon due to overheating he asked to leave car in his garrage and called me after 2 days and told original gasket repalced and charged me 8k rs.

But again after some days (I am taking ou my car rarly) that bonet is look over heating to avoide the same problem like breakdown on mid road i drived straight to Authirizaed secrive centre. there The mach. inspected and calle me next day ,same eday eveining he call on my cell and told that there is lots of Problem in your car and said all parts in cooling systems need to replaced (Ignition coil, start plug all tubes in cooling system fuel pump connecting wires of fans and heat sensers) and chargded 24k rs.

After that similar problem not come.

I like to ask some expert in this fourum is the problem came due to parts gone bad as repalced by the Machanic?

Please replay.....

I like to ask to the expert if ant

@dipesh/pramod -

Before you take any step do the following:

  1. Change the air filter element - its a good thing to do if the car is old and you've never had a look at this item.
  2. Determine if there is a pattern to occurence of jerks - like time of the day or outside tempertature and so on.
  3. Check the coolant level - though overheating will cause the engine to shut down rather than give jerks.
  4. Check if all spark plug cables are fine (no cracks/cuts) and that they are connected properly. If you have doubt replace these cables - a good thing to do anyways if the car is old.
  5. While driving keep an eye on the temperature guage - if it rises above normal there's a problem with the cooling system (low coolant and/or bad radiator fan or its relay) - fix as required. For the low coolant check for leaks. For the radiator fan check the fan motor and the relay that drives the motor.

If the above is in order, and still the jerking persists you need to get the following checked:

  1. Spark plugs
  2. Spark plug distributor
  3. Injectors
  4. Fuel filter
  5. Fuel pump
  6. Fuel lines

@Pramod - there you have the answer: Check the fuel pump first.

Hi Grey Matter....

I have Ford Ikon Rocam Engine which is done 100K KM. I had the similar problem. This is common for all Ford IKONs crossed 60-70K KM.

1. Over Heating. The Radiator Fan spun always at high speed right after the engine is started.

2. Jerking. Probably Misfiring in the cylinders/Spark Plugs.

3. Starting Problem after parking the car for more than 3-4 hours. I dont know what to call it as. It would start after 2nd or 3rd attempt. My Car would start and RPM would come down and choke to off..

Let me tell you what I had done to get rid of the problem.

Note: General Service. I did an oil service which includes Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter and Air Filter..

1.Then for Over Heating Problem.. I had problem with my thermostat valve.. I had to replace it. And I had a block in my radiator.. The coolant failed to flow through out the cooling system. After Radiator service, my radiator fan starting working fine. Idle on low temperature.. then low speed and high speed, if required. (Always check the coolant level when your temperature gauge rises above normal level often). If its low, for emergency atleast fill it up with some water. Its better than nothing in it.

2. For Jerking. I had my ignition coil, plug wires and spark plugs changed. After that I felt my car unleashed from a strong metal chain...

3.  For that Typical Engine Problem, I had to check my fuel systems. It was fine. Then I went to sensors. I had a total sensor systems scanning. There I found my car had a trouble with (O2) Oxygen Sensor. It was rectified with just some clicks. (O2 Sensor had short circuit during a water wash)

This was how I rectified my problems.

I spent just around Rs.15K to rectify these problems.

Its worth It.

Note: Before Buying a second hand Ford Ikon which is done more than 50K even without any accident history.. Check the Fuel Systems, especially Fuel Pump.. then Cooling Systems, especially radiator and thermostat precisely. Then to Ignition Systems... ignition coil and sensors.. High chances for these things to wearing out. Its equally important to examine body, brakes, clutch, shocks, transmissions, etc. So you can bargain for a better price.

Regards,

Jin

Hi,

I had this problem recently.... I noticed it when my mileage dropped to 6-7 / Lt where as usually I use to get around 10-11 in the city and also the pickup dropped to a very poor level.

Today I got this checked at Metro Ford St Marks Road Bangalore and the problem turned out to be in the Engine Coil....they replaced it and it costed around 5k but to my good luck ...my vehicle is under extended warranty so I didnt have to pay anything....but since realization, I have lost around 4 k due to less mileage....
