Hi Grey Matter....
I have Ford Ikon Rocam Engine which is done 100K KM. I had the similar problem. This is common for all Ford IKONs crossed 60-70K KM.
1. Over Heating. The Radiator Fan spun always at high speed right after the engine is started.
2. Jerking. Probably Misfiring in the cylinders/Spark Plugs.
3. Starting Problem after parking the car for more than 3-4 hours. I dont know what to call it as. It would start after 2nd or 3rd attempt. My Car would start and RPM would come down and choke to off..
Let me tell you what I had done to get rid of the problem.
Note: General Service. I did an oil service which includes Engine Oil, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter and Air Filter..
1.Then for Over Heating Problem.. I had problem with my thermostat valve.. I had to replace it. And I had a block in my radiator.. The coolant failed to flow through out the cooling system. After Radiator service, my radiator fan starting working fine. Idle on low temperature.. then low speed and high speed, if required. (Always check the coolant level when your temperature gauge rises above normal level often). If its low, for emergency atleast fill it up with some water. Its better than nothing in it.
2. For Jerking. I had my ignition coil, plug wires and spark plugs changed. After that I felt my car unleashed from a strong metal chain...
3. For that Typical Engine Problem, I had to check my fuel systems. It was fine. Then I went to sensors. I had a total sensor systems scanning. There I found my car had a trouble with (O2) Oxygen Sensor. It was rectified with just some clicks. (O2 Sensor had short circuit during a water wash)
This was how I rectified my problems.
I spent just around Rs.15K to rectify these problems.
Its worth It.
Note: Before Buying a second hand Ford Ikon which is done more than 50K even without any accident history.. Check the Fuel Systems, especially Fuel Pump.. then Cooling Systems, especially radiator and thermostat precisely. Then to Ignition Systems... ignition coil and sensors.. High chances for these things to wearing out. Its equally important to examine body, brakes, clutch, shocks, transmissions, etc. So you can bargain for a better price.

Jin
