I would like to know certain things regarding LPG as auto fuel. I have purchased a Wagon R Duo which runs on both petrol and LPG. I primarily use LPG only. I am purchasing LPG from one particular pump in Kolkata (Prince Service Station on Prince Anwar Shah Road, Kolkata). Since there are only 7 LPG pumping stations I do not have any choice, as this particular one is closest to my home. However I am noticing variations in mileage tremendously. Usually I get around 13-14 kms per litre of LPG as I drive mostly, if not totally in the highways. However there have been instances I have mileage droping down to 7-8 kms per litre. The pump authority is nonchalant about this. The auto-rickshaw drivers too have a complaint regarding this problem. Incidentally the wee my car gives such low mileage, the auto-rickshaw drivers too have similar complain. What is the problem with the pump ?? THIS IS CHEATING, ISN’T IT? Please help.

Dear Sreemoyee,

If its a regular practice and several others too have felt the same then its no big deal that dealer is playing with filling system. Its not a rare thing, every second filling-station in the country is cheating people in terms of filling less or adding non-petroleum in the Petrol/Diesel etc. If it has happened once or twice only with you then problem might be on your end too. You might have noted the kilometer reading incorrectly. Try to get the tank filled from some other pump for a couple of times and try to notice the mileage.

1. as yet there r no known instances of lpg adulteration

2. also quantum diff due to temp variation is negligible .. hence inconsequential for th present problem

3. it is assumed that th condition of th car and th driving conditions r similar and there is no leakage ............any of these factors cud result in mileage drop

4. it is assumed that th car does not run th a/c with th engine on ... when parked .... chauffeurs idling away .. housewives while out shopping ..... youngsters when with their girlfriend/boyfriend .... businessmen holding meetings inside th parked car ........ r usually th culprits

5. if not ... then th usual caliberation problem ........ most rampant acrosss th country

................ th possible solutions .........

a. never buy less than full tank............... if th pump fills more than th licenced capacity ... u kno his meter is faulty. ......in less than full tank it is impossible to detect short measures

b. at most pumps ... only 1 dispenser is caliberated correctly (out of th 2 or 4 or more for any fuel) and this correct dispenser is mostly shown out of order or is used only for th more fussy clients like taxis n autos .... idntify this dispenser and insist on filling from that only

c. if nuthing works ....... change th pump .... in th long run it is cheaper to buy th correct measure from a pump slightly away

if thass th case ..... try

1. complaining against th guy to all u can incl th police ,.....

2. beat th guy to pulp n break his pump

3. use petrol ................................. (which by th way will also b short measured)

I do not have a different problem after purchasing WagonR Duo. There does not appear any end of it. Sometimes I had to travel to Salt Lake for getting auto gas all the way from Lake Gardens. Car dealers should now make the buyers aware of this acute problem. Petroleum Ministry is perhaps not keen to resolve this.

I ALSO HAVE A WAGON R DUO . I HAVE NOT FACED VARIATION IN MILEGE , BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE TO TRAVEL MINIMUM 17 KM [ BARRACKPORE TO DUNLOP]TO FILL LPG , SINCE IT IS THE NEAREST.

ONCE I TRAVELLED FROM KOLKATA TO JAMSHEDPUR , BUT SURPRISINGLY ALL THE WAY FROM KOLKATA TO JAMSHEDPUR , I COULD NOT FIND A SINGLE LPG FILLING STATION .

ALL THE WAY FROM KOLKATA TO JAMSHEDPUR , ROUGHLY 21LT. OF LPG WAS CONSUMED.

I would like to know certain things regarding LPG as auto fuel for piaggio auto rickshaws (piaggio ape city). The auto is supposed to have a claimed average of between 16-18 but only returns 10-12 and even after getting help from vanaz engineers (makers of the lpg gas kits ) the average actually decreased, another method that i used was to reduce the amount of gas injected into the the system so as to reduce rpm as well as speed leading to increased average ,but is there another way to increase its average without decreasing performence. Also im facing the above mentioned problems such as filling stations filling more gas than the actual limit and not being able to fill gas unless the auto has run approx 100km
