i have zen estillo petrol 2008 model

i am getting the average of 15 kms/l

people are suggesting me to get lpg and then it will be very cheap. but then i am told that it will damage the engine.

i want to know which is better lpg or cng ... and kit for them is same or seperate??

should i go for this kit or not

at present i am not using my car much (approx 400 kms per month) but if it becomes cheap then i may use it for approx 1000 kms per month

NOW SUGGEST FRIENDS WHAT SHOULD I DO.... PETROL PRICES ARE BOUND TO INCREASE IN SHORT PERIOD

Mileage (kms) on LPG decreases - SAY from 15 on petrol to 12 (LPG) while the same on CNG  increases from 15 on petrol to 18 (CNG).  Running cost is much cheaper on CNG - for obvious reasons (cheaper fuel & better mileage).

Maintenance cost on LPG will be a little higher than Petrol - in long term.  The same on CNG will be even higher.  There will also be some performance/power-loss - on LPG & CNG - more in  the case of CNG.  It cannot match with that of petrol/diesel.

LPG & CNG Kits are different.  LPG may cost in the range of 18-22K while CNG around 40K.
LPG/CNG are normally considered when the run/usage is substantially high (not in your case - even with 1K p.m.).

thanks buddy

that is a very neat and clear reply

now suggest me ... should i go for cng kit in my usage

see why i want to go for kit. ... i think that as people say that cng will damage engine after few years.. even if i use cng for 5-8 years .. in that period i may even change my car so why should not i go for cng and save money.... THATS MY THINKING

further i dont drive fast (45-60) and rarely go over it, so decrease in pickup etc will not hurt me.

tell now .. i am waiting

CNG will obviously be cheaper - even after the initial cost of kit/retrofitment & higher maintenance cost.  But you will miss the trouble-free driving pleasure & the performance of petrol (5-8 years). Resale value would also suffer (not a concern in long term ownership, however).

I would still recommend not to go for it - your run isn't substantially high to merit the retrofitment (all the trouble).

Guptaji, leave it. That road is neither profitable nor comfortable for you.

With your kind of usage, you will not even be able to recover the gas kit cost for 2/3/4 years   (who knows what usage pattern will be there in that long run). By the time you recover the upfront premium paid by you on the kit, it will be time for selling the car to get to a better / newer one. And then you will realize that the gas kit is costing you even more than you thought - through diminished resale price, as generally the gas kitted car will be thought to be in poor health. So effectively, no benefit. Maintenance hassles, problems, bonus! Want it?

I have been tracking the woes faced by my friend from Hyderabad - Ravi. He has a Santro CNG and it has troubled him so much I feel his pain. Just go through a few posts by him and you will realize.

Disclaimer: I am not in general trashing Gas Kits. they have their own place in the scheme of things, and are very helpful for heavy users / taxi owners to cut their running expenses. But for general individual, this is neither cost effective, nor convenient in terms of maintenance. Hence this recommendation.

That's the bottom-line I second.  Nothing wrong with CNG (or LPG) otherwise.

Dear Mr Vinay GOkhale,

i dropped the idea of getting the kit as i am not using my car that much. my usage is under 500 kms per month and may be even less and for this usage the kit is not advisable as suggested inthis forum also.

the kit may be useful in taxi or more use of car.

the suggestions given by people in this forum are sufficient to understand the usage of kit.

anyway as far as i am concerned the idea has been dropped by me

byeeeeeee

Hi family,

I have a query.. I heard thru my friend that, the Government has given a rule to the banks that, bank should give discounts in loan amount/interest rate on purchasing of HYBRID cars? Is that True? if so what about LPG model cars?
