Hi,
Browsing through the used cars showroom, cam across a Honda CR-V 2.4 AT(2005, 81,000 kms run)
The price quoted is Rs. 7.5 lakh (which made me say...I smell a rat !)

So checked the price using the Carwale Evaluation tool, which pegged the same car in Pune at Rs. 8.19 lakhs

There's not a huge difference, so is the resale value of this car really so less ? What could have been the price of the car when it was bought new ?

Honda CRV (MT or AT) has low resale value mainly due to high cost of maintenance, spares & repairs, and low demand (new cars).  Generally the AT cars have lesser resale value (any car).  The CarWale used Car Valuation Tool does give correct approximate price.

The price of CRV in 2005 may have been 20 lac + (currently it's 24-25 lac).

Some jerk rear-ends you, gives you a dent on the rear door, and you land up at the dealer (for 24L vehicle, you would not dare to go to the local denter painter) Guess what the dealer tells you? - Saar, it would cost ~60k, would take 2.5 months - Import from Japan. Any small engine trouble, slow moving part to be replaced - park your CRV at your garage for the time it takes for the part to be imported. Also pay through your nose and other orifices for each such repair - A time comes when you think rightly to cut your losses, and list it at less than the market price...

And guess what - Another fool rushes in and purchases it, rejoicing at the bargain he struck!

(PS: Just an example why the used CRV prices are so low compared to their new prices. By all means, those who have the means should buy and enjoy expensive cars. Nothing against it. So no flames please!)

Thanks to Pankaj and Krishna, I dropped even the idea of checking further about the vehicle. Otherwise i would be the next prospective fool, tempted by the mouth-watering deal.... Aah, this craze for cars is dangerous !!!
