Interpreting VIN/chassis number - LETS HELP EACH OTHER

Its an Euro III , i10 manufactured on 16.03.2010

Any one know. how to find the manf month and year of Maruti?

I have tried to decode the VIN of i10 cars. Please correct me if i am wrong!

A typical VIN of an i10 car goes like this MALAM51CR8MXXXXXX

Here, World Manufacturer Identifier {MAL}
Geographic Zone (M) – India
Manufacturer (A) – Hyundai Motor India
Vehicle Type (L) – Passenger Car

Vehicle Descriptor Section {AM51CR}
Model / Vehicle Line (A) – i 10, B- i 20, C-Verna
Version (M) - GL
Body Type (5) – 5 Door Hatchback
Restraint System, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (1) – Both Sides Active Belt, Class B (1361-1814 kgs) 
Engine Type (C) – Gasoline, V-Diesel
Drive Side (R) – Right Hand Side

Vehicle Indicator Section {8MXXXXXX}
Manufacturing Year (8) – 2008, A, B, C...for 2010,2011, 2012 etc. 
Manufacturing Plant (M) – Chennai, India
Vehicle Production Serial Number (xxxxx) – XXXXX

Check under the Boot/Bonnet where you can find additional two Digit/Letter which represents Month and Year.

If its April 2010 then the code will be DA where D represents April and A represent year 2010.

A to M excluding i(I) is represents month January to December.

here is the full definition of i10 vin also you can find the month . Check under the drivers seat there you can find a small flap open that you will get a code like this like you given Plus an extra digit

MALAM51CR8MXXXXXX*D

where the * is just a separator and D represents Month April

The other month codes are from A to M excluding i(I) i.e from January to December

Absolutely great work Wildon. One more point if you can clarify about the EURO III/IV compliance. How to find it out?

Its through some reliable sources and the same i can't  disclose for several reasons 

hmmm..ok I can understand. But I'm fighting a case here for my i10. When I booked my i10, I was told that it's manufactured in Apr 10 and EURO IV compliant. But when I confirmed the manufacturing with you and approached the dealer, they agreed that the car is of Mar 10 but it is EURO IV complaint. I want to validate it and hence wanted to know about how to find it.

^^ Check the copy of Form-22 in that you can find the emission standard information. Or ask them the document which proves your vehicle is Euro IV

I checked with the dealer. He said that it's with the RTO. I'm yet to get by Smart card from RTO. Got my car on 16th May. The smart card will take couple of months and the EURO information will be mentioned on the smart card.
